Job Summary The Senior Engineering Manager – Utility Review & Design uses creativity, foresight, and mature judgment to anticipate and solve unprecedented problems. The role makes authoritative decisions, sets priorities, and reconciles competing interests while leading complex programs. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assist in development of engineering utility design team. Lead and supervise a team of engineers and technicians responsible for reviewing, planning, and executing deliverables that meet or exceed quality and client requirements. Perform quality control of utility reviews and designs. Manage and balance team workload. Provide excellent customer service to applicants while maintaining railroad standards. Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and coaching to team members and others in the discipline, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Manage performance, development, and training of engineering staff, conducting regular performance reviews and feedback sessions. Represent the discipline group in internal and external meetings, presentations, and conferences, communicating effectively with all stakeholders. Prepare and deliver technical presentations, reports, and proposals to clients, senior management, and other parties. Provide input and feedback on policies, procedures, and processes, suggesting improvements as needed. Serve as the technical resource for the organization in applying advanced concepts, principles, and methods in an assigned area. Stay informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization, recommending program or application changes. Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients, identifying new business opportunities for the discipline group and company. Prepare and review proposals, contracts, budgets, schedules, and technical reports for the discipline group. Support recruitment, selection, and retention of qualified and diverse engineering talent. Be responsible for client deliverables, business development, and client satisfaction. Successfully complete an approved course on oral communications. Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture free from behaviors that undermine morale, productivity, or organizational values. Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs. Qualifications Proficient with electronic communication (email, text) and standard office applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated skills in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program. At least 5 years of experience with utility design or review. Preferred Experience Experience with railroad specifications. Additional Qualifications, Certifications, etc. Professional Engineer (PE), equivalent, or authorization of CLPO. Member of a professional practice organization, national board member or officer, recognized expert on statewide activity, or resource for national activities and organization. Why RailPros?
