Skills Required

Primary (Must-Have):

• 2–4 years of experience in GIS, mapping, or a related field
• Experience working with ESRI GIS software, tools, and databases
• Strong GIS data management and maintenance skills
• Experience creating maps and visual representations using GIS tools
• Ability to ensure data accuracy and integrity within GIS databases
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving GIS data inconsistencies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Secondary (Good to Have):

• Experience supporting GIS Analysts on complex projects
• Knowledge of GIS database updates and maintenance processes
• Familiarity with utility, infrastructure, engineering, or environmental mapping projects
• Experience recommending GIS process improvements and tool enhancements

Position Overview

The GIS Technician is responsible for performing routine Geographic Information System (GIS) activities, including data management, database maintenance, and map creation. This role supports GIS operations by ensuring data accuracy, maintaining GIS databases, creating visual mapping products, and collaborating with GIS Analysts on complex projects.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with ESRI GIS software and possess strong technical, analytical, and data management skills.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage routine GIS tasks, including data maintenance, updates, and quality control
• Create maps, reports, and visual representations using GIS software and tools
• Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of GIS databases
• Perform timely updates and maintenance of GIS data and records
• Collaborate with GIS Analysts and project teams on complex GIS initiatives
• Troubleshoot and resolve GIS data discrepancies and inconsistencies
• Conduct data validation and quality assurance activities
• Support GIS system improvements and provide recommendations for tool enhancements
• Maintain documentation related to GIS processes and data updates
• Assist with special GIS projects and mapping requests as assigned
• Perform additional duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or a related field
• 2–4 years of GIS-related experience
• 2–4 years of experience working with ESRI GIS software, tools, and databases
• Strong knowledge of GIS mapping, spatial data management, and database maintenance
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
• Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting large-scale GIS projects
• Familiarity with GIS data modeling and spatial analysis concepts
• Experience in utility, telecommunications, engineering, or infrastructure environments
• Knowledge of GIS best practices and quality assurance methodologies
