What a day looks like

You clock in at 6:00 a.m., review blueprints with AWS weld symbols, and map out your fit-up plan. You set and tune welding machines and plasma torches, gather fixtures you’ve created to hold parts true, and begin cutting and burning as part of the fabrication process. You lay out and fit components by drawing or process sheet, run FCAW/GMAW/GTAW welds in multiple positions, and straighten materials as needed with little to no supervision. Along the way you verify tolerances, follow weld procedures and QC plans, and perform basic NDE (LPT and VT). X-ray quality welds may occasionally be on your list. Overhead cranes and forklifts move the heavy plate; grinders, torches, and plasma cutters are daily companions.

• Cut, fit, weld, and straighten materials for shop fabrication of ASME code pressure vessels and related assemblies
• Read and interpret blueprints and AWS symbols; follow weld procedures, QC plans, and written/oral directions
• Set up and adjust welding machines and plasma torches
• Lay out and fit parts per drawings or process sheets; create fixtures to secure parts during welding
• Perform basic NDE (LPT and VT) and maintain critical tolerances
• Operate grinders, torches, plasma cutters, overhead cranes, and forklifts safely

• Demonstrated safety awareness and training in a construction/manufacturing setting
• Ability to read a tape measure to 1/64”
• Comfort following both written instructions and verbal direction
• Experience producing occasional x-ray quality welds
• Strong blueprint reading and AWS symbol literacy
• Understanding of tolerances and how to hold them during fabrication

• 5+ years welding/fitting on ASME Code pressure vessels
• Fluency in FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW; able to weld in multiple positions as required
• Knowledge of welding principles, set-up, and process control

• Must be able to complete and pass a physical assessment
• Repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movements daily; frequent gripping and wrist torquing
• Daily standing, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping
• Lift 25–50 lbs routinely
• Work around moving machinery with exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and other elements
• Ability to hear emergency communications and alarms

• 10-hour shop schedule, Monday–Thursday (40 hours), 6:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
• Overtime available on Friday and Saturday
• Night shift available with a 10% pay differential
