Job Description Summary:
The Division of Safety and Operations aims to provide a safe and secure campus for all members of the university community through best-in-class technological and physical infrastructure, proactive assessment and analysis, and a caring team of professionals dedicated to upholding the university's values with the highest degree of conscientiousness. The Office of Advocacy & Support (OAS) operates from an anti-oppression framework to provide trauma-informed and healing-centered confidential support to GW students, faculty, and staff impacted by sexual violence, relationship violence, and/or stalking. OAS partners with campus offices and departments to cultivate a safer, healthier, and more informed campus community. The Prevention Specialist reports to the Associate Director, Advocacy & Support. This position is primarily responsible for using an intersectional lens to develop and implement prevention strategies and trauma-informed and healing-centered trainings and initiatives. This position will work collaboratively with other advocates in the Office of Advocacy & Support, campus partners, and a variety of off-campus resources. This position will also deliver resources and services to persons impacted by various types of power-based violence (i.e. relationship violence, sexual violence/harassment and/or stalking) to work through their healing journey. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Integrates philosophies of anti-oppression and intersectional work into the position.
- Develops and expands new and existing programs at the request of community members such as healthy relationships, bystander intervention, addressing rape culture, trauma and more.
- Develops evidence-based interventions, curricula and materials for students, staff, and faculty with particular emphasis on culturally and linguistically relevant information designed to center and improve outreach and services for marginalized populations.
- Works collaboratively with the Title IX Office to provide training and education for the George Washington University community (e.g. mandatory first-year training, Excellence Learning Seminars).
- Builds relationships and bridges with all communities, especially those who have been marginalized.
- Attends and manages resource fairs and workshops across the university.
- Tracks and documents outreach activities.
- Regularly makes recommendations for changes, develops and implements tools to evaluate program effectiveness, and monitors goals.
- Provide confidential advocacy and healing-centered support to individuals impacted by relationship violence, sexual violence/harassment and/or stalking , including meeting with individuals 1:1, providing compassionate referrals, monitoring follow-ups for ongoing cases and advising the Advocacy & Support team of client progress and needs.

- Experience providing support to survivors who experience relationship violence, sexual violence/harassment and/or stalking.
- Specialized knowledge and expertise of key issues and trends in the field of interpersonal violence and healing.
- Capacity to provide conflict management in crisis situations and to persons in distress.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and management skills.
- Ability to build and maintain successful collaborative relationships in a diverse campus community.
- Experience in an academic/higher education environment.
- Experience working with law enforcement, public and private services offered in DC, to include services offered by the DC Superior Court.
