Rex is seeking a Senior Asset Manager to architect and enforce excellence across a scaling portfolio of multifamily assets. This mandate is for a top one-percent performer who looks, acts, and communicates as a fiduciary while operating with the hardcore intensity of a competitive athlete. You will own the performance of 2,000+ units, scaling that engine to 30,000+ units through disciplined execution and sharp commercial instincts. This is an execution-driven builder role for someone who thrives in bringing order to chaos. You will command respect from property management teams and external partners, holding them to board-level discipline through rigorous, data-driven oversight. You must be AI-fluent, leveraging emerging technology to drive operational efficiency and identify financial outliers. Your functional muscle includes experience in structured finance, with a proven record of placing agency debt and negotiating complex loan workouts. You are a front-line closer with the gravitas to sell Rex's management services to ultra-high-net-worth investors and family offices. You must combine scrappy, zero-to-one hustle with the sophisticated communication skills required to navigate high-stakes lender negotiations. We need a hard-charging executor who is firm yet respectful, a watchdog who inspires excellence while maintaining the missionary fire required to build a multi-generational enterprise. Must be missionary to the bone, obsessed with the stewardship of investor trust and deeply passionate about catalyzing human flourishing through the built environment. Fully remote, with a strong preference for Austin as a home base.
About the Role
This role exists to build and run an institutional-grade asset management function across a fast-scaling multifamily portfolio. You will own the operating and financial performance of 2,000+ units today and help scale that engine to 30,000+ units over time. The mandate is simple: protect investor capital, drive NOI growth, enforce discipline, and create a portfolio that performs under pressure. You will own asset-level business plans, portfolio performance, lender strategy, and third-party management accountability. You will operate at the center of acquisitions, finance, property management, capital partners, and leadership. You will set the standard for how Rex underwrites decisions, measures performance, escalates issues, and turns fragmented information into clear action. You will build the systems, reporting cadence, and decision-making infrastructure required to bring order to chaos. That includes enforcing board-level rigor across property operations, identifying financial outliers before they become problems, and using AI and emerging technology to increase speed, accuracy, and operating leverage. You will also step into the field as a commercial operator, helping win and retain investor relationships by demonstrating sharp judgment, credibility, and command of the business. This role is for a rare operator who combines fiduciary judgment, structured finance depth, commercial edge, and athletic intensity. You must be able to push hard without losing trust, drive accountability without creating drag, and represent Rex with sophistication in rooms that matter. This is high-stakes work tied directly to investor outcomes, platform credibility, and long-term enterprise value. Must be missionary to the bone.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the financial and operational performance of a growing multifamily portfolio, with full accountability for NOI, cash flow, occupancy, collections, expense control, and business plan execution
- Architect and enforce a best-in-class asset management operating system across assets, teams, and external partners
- Build and manage asset-level strategies, including hold-sell analysis, capital planning, renovation pacing, lease trade-out targets, and operational turnaround plans
- Lead weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance reviews with property management teams, holding operators to clear metrics, deadlines, and standards
- Create rigorous reporting packages for leadership, investors, and lenders that translate portfolio data into decisions and action
- Identify operational and financial outliers early, diagnose root causes, and implement corrective plans with urgency
- Drive lender strategy across the portfolio, including agency debt placement, refinancing, covenant compliance, reserve negotiations, modifications, and complex loan workouts
- Negotiate directly with lenders, servicers, attorneys, and counterparties in high-stakes situations where precision, control, and credibility matter
- Partner with acquisitions and finance to pressure-test underwriting, transition new assets into the portfolio, and align execution against the original investment thesis
- Evaluate and improve third-party property management performance, including staffing plans, revenue management, maintenance execution, resident experience, and budgeting discipline
- Leverage AI tools and emerging technology to automate reporting, improve operating visibility, surface anomalies, and increase team efficiency
- Support capital formation and business development efforts by presenting Rex's asset management capabilities to ultra-high-net-worth investors, family offices, and strategic partners
- Serve as a front-line closer in management and investor conversations, using data, judgment, and executive presence to build conviction and trust
- Raise the bar across the platform by instilling urgency, accountability, and fiduciary discipline in every operating rhythm
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 5-7+ years of experience in asset management, structured finance, principal investing, or multifamily portfolio operations, with direct accountability for asset-level performance
- Strong background in multifamily real estate, with meaningful exposure to value-add, turnaround, and scaled portfolio management environments
- Proven record of placing agency debt, navigating lender processes, and negotiating complex restructurings, extensions, or loan workouts
- Deep fluency in property-level financials, including T12 analysis, rent rolls, variance analysis, budget management, reforecasting, and asset-level return optimization
- Experience overseeing third-party property management firms and holding regional and on-site teams accountable to measurable operating standards
- Demonstrated ability to scale systems, reporting, and execution across a growing portfolio rather than simply manage isolated assets
- Strong command of Excel and real estate financial modeling, including scenario analysis, capital planning, sensitivity analysis, and business plan tracking
- High proficiency with Yardi, RealPage, Entrata, AppFolio, or similar property management and reporting systems
- AI-fluent, with a practical ability to use tools such as ChatGPT, automation platforms, BI dashboards, and workflow systems to improve speed, insight, and operating leverage
- Strong understanding of revenue management, expense controls, capex execution, renovation economics, and on-site operational KPIs
- Track record of communicating with lenders, investors, family offices, and senior stakeholders in a way that builds trust and commands respect
- Comfortable selling management services and platform capability to sophisticated capital partners and ultra-high-net-worth investors
- Able to move seamlessly between scrappy zero-to-one problem solving and polished executive communication in high-stakes environments
- Firm, respectful, and highly accountable, with the judgment to push operators hard while preserving alignment and momentum
- Bachelor's degree in finance, real estate, economics, business, or a related field preferred; advanced real estate, finance, or investment training is a plus
- Based in Austin or willing to make Austin a frequent operating hub, while thriving in a fully remote environment with high autonomy and high standards
