Electronics Technician

Employee will be assigned to Engineering Service, VA Healthcare System, Fayetteville, AR, and is responsible for the comprehensive management of electronic systems within the main facility, Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC), and catchment areas.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-10 grade level in the Federal Service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE ( Transcript Required ): Successful completion of three (3) full years of graduate education or a Ph. D degree directly related to the work of this position (i.e., in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, electronics technology) meets the requirements for the GS-11 level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE ( Transcript Required ): Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Employee handles objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds routinely and occasionally handles objects of up to fifty (50) pounds. Frequently, work will be performed in cramped and awkward positions. The work also requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. Technical, academic, and mental demands are considerable. The work performed is of a precise nature, requiring prolonged concentration. The employee often works under conditions of stress caused by the nature of the work and the necessity to meet deadlines. Employee is required to frequently travel to perform work at remote sites. Emergencies at these locations will require immediate response and potentially afterhours response allowing very limited time for notice and preparation.
