Executive Director of Special Education and Behavioral Supports Marysville Public Schools Central Office - Marysville, Michigan Job ID: 5799471 Application Deadline: Jul 04, 2026 11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time) Posted: Jun 24, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Jul 1, 2026 Job Details Hours/Time/Calendar: 52 week employee Effective: July 1, 2026 Reports to: Superintendent Qualifications Master's Degree or higher in Special Education, Educational Leadership, School Administration, or a related field Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate Valid Michigan Special Education Approval in at least one area of special education Approval as a Michigan Special Education Supervisor, Director, or Consultant preferred Michigan School Administrator Certificate or enrollment in an approved administrator preparation program preferred Minimum five years of successful experience in special education Experience as a special education teacher consultant, supervisor, or administrator preferred Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) trained or willingness to be trained Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA, Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education, Michigan special education finance, and MDE compliance requirements. Experience leading IEP teams, facilitating difficult meetings, and supervising staff. Experience implementing PBIS and MTSS in a school or district setting. Experience with behavior compliance (FBA/BIP). Experience with fiscal oversight. Strong leadership and coaching skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly with school and district administration. Ability to establish positive relationships and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds including students and staff. Job Responsibilities Provide leadership and oversight of all district special education programs and services. Ensure compliance with IDEA, MARSE, Section 504, ADA, and Michigan Department of Education requirements. Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of IEPs, evaluations, and special education service delivery. Promote inclusive practices and support student success through MTSS and evidence-based interventions. Supervise, evaluate, and support special education staff and related service providers. Coordinate professional development related to special education instruction, compliance, and student support. Develop and manage special education budgets, grants, and reimbursement programs. Collaborate with district administrators, RESA, community agencies, and families to ensure high-quality services for students. Analyze student achievement, compliance, and program data to drive continuous improvement. Serve as the district liaison for special education matters and represent the district in meetings, hearings, and state monitoring activities. Prepare required reports and recommendations for the Superintendent, Board of Education, and state agencies. Support implementation of Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and other district initiatives. Oversee implementation of procedural safeguards and due process requirements. Oversee district compliance with discipline requirements for students with disabilities, including manifestation determination reviews. Oversee utilization and compliance of federal IDEA grant funds. Coordinate reimbursement processes through the Michigan Special Education Cost Reimbursement system. Provide ongoing coaching and support to teachers, service providers, and administrators. Participate in IEP meetings and difficult or complex parent conferences as needed. Serve as a member of the district administrative leadership team. Provide leadership and oversight for district-wide behavior support programs and initiatives including PBIS, SEL, and other behavior support frameworks. Support administrators and staff in addressing student behavior concerns through proactive and evidence‑based interventions. Supervise and evaluate assigned behavior support personnel and consultants. Coordinate crisis response, threat assessment, de‑escalation practices, and student re‑entry plans as needed. Collaborate with district and building leaders to implement comprehensive family engagement plans. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. Portions of this position are grant funded. Grant funded program services supplement and support but do not supplant or replace general educational programs of the school district.
