Respiratory Therapist

Altru Rehabilitation Hospital – Respiratory Therapist Altru Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Altru Health System in Grand Forks, ND, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive respiratory care to patients across a variety of acuity levels, including those recovering from illness, injury, or surgery as well as individuals with chronic cardiopulmonary conditions. You will perform patient assessments, develop and implement individualized respiratory care plans in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team, and deliver therapies such as oxygen administration, aerosol and bronchodilator treatments, chest physiotherapy, and airway clearance techniques. You will initiate, manage, and wean patients from invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, respond to respiratory emergencies and rapid response calls, and provide support during codes, intubations, and other critical procedures. Daily responsibilities include monitoring and interpreting cardiopulmonary status, adjusting therapies based on clinical changes and established protocols, and accurately documenting all assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record. You will ensure safe and effective use of respiratory equipment by performing pre‑use checks, troubleshooting alarms, and following infection prevention and equipment cleaning standards. As part of Altru Health System’s collaborative and community-focused culture, you will work closely with nurses, physicians, rehabilitation professionals, and other team members to coordinate care and support optimal patient outcomes. You will educate patients and families on respiratory diseases, inhaler and equipment use, home oxygen safety, and strategies for managing symptoms and preventing re‑hospitalization.
