Food Service Supervisor
The Food Service Supervisor is responsible for leading the day-to-day operation of Round Lake Christian Camp's food service ministry. This position ensures campers, volunteers, guests, and staff receive safe, nutritious, and satisfying meals in a welcoming Christian environment.
This is a full-time supervisory position during the summer camp season, with cyclical hours during the off-season. The Food Service Supervisor provides leadership to kitchen employees and volunteers, coordinates meal preparation and service, manages dietary needs, and maintains high standards of sanitation, organization, and hospitality.
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision
- Lead, train, schedule, and supervise assistant cooks, kitchen staff, and volunteers.
- Clearly communicate daily responsibilities, meal schedules, and expectations.
- Delegate tasks and ensure food preparation and service are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
- Provide appropriate instruction, feedback, and correction to kitchen staff.
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and Christ-centered kitchen environment.
- Communicate staffing, supply, maintenance, or performance concerns to camp management.
- Remain calm, organized, and solution-focused during busy or stressful situations.
Meal Preparation and Service
- Coordinate the preparation, cooking, and serving of large quantities of food.
- Ensure meals are nutritious, appealing, properly portioned, and ready according to the camp schedule.
- Review menus and determine daily preparation needs.
- Adjust food quantities based on attendance and previous meal usage to reduce unnecessary waste.
- Assist directly with food preparation, cooking, serving, and cleaning as needed.
- Oversee the proper handling of leftovers and food storage.
Dietary Needs and Food Safety
- Identify and appropriately manage food allergies, dietary restrictions, and special meal needs.
- Help prevent cross-contact and ensure dietary information is clearly communicated to kitchen staff.
- Maintain high standards of sanitation throughout food preparation, service, and cleanup.
- Ensure food is stored, prepared, cooked, cooled, and served at safe temperatures.
- Maintain required temperature logs, cleaning records, and other food-safety documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable health department requirements and camp policies.
Kitchen Operations
- Safely and efficiently operate camp kitchen equipment, including:
- Grills
- Ovens
- Deep fryers
- Dishwashers
- Large mixers
- Food slicers
- Steam tables
- Coffee makers
- Other commercial kitchen equipment
- Ensure kitchen equipment and workspaces are properly cleaned and maintained.
- Report damaged or unsafe equipment promptly.
- Stock and organize pantries, storerooms, coolers, and freezers.
- Receive and properly store food and supplies on delivery days.
- Monitor inventory and communicate ordering needs before supplies run out.
- Help maintain clean, organized, and secure kitchen and storage areas.
Education and Experience
- Large-quantity or commercial cooking experience preferred.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience working in a camp, school, restaurant, cafeteria, or institutional kitchen is beneficial.
- ServSafe Manager certification is required or must be obtained within a timeframe established by Round Lake Christian Camp.
- Additional training may be provided to the right candidate.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to train, direct, and encourage employees and volunteers.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to follow and communicate verbal and written instructions.
- Basic mathematical ability, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing units of measure.
- Ability to scale recipes and calculate food quantities.
- Valid Ohio driver's license.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
- Regularly bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull.
- Lift and carry food, supplies, and kitchen equipment.
- Work around hot burners, ovens, fryers, steam tables, and other heated equipment.
- Work near cutting and slicing equipment and machinery with moving parts.
- Work in changing temperatures, including kitchens, coolers, and freezers.
- Perform duties in a busy kitchen environment with moderate to high noise levels.
- Maintain the health and stamina necessary to perform the position safely and effectively.
