Director Support Services

Job Summary Leads the daily operations of the Environmental Services department, including cleaning and disinfection of the physical environment, environmental infection prevention and control, linen distribution, waste management, and pest control. Provides support to Food & Nutrition Services, Linen Services, and Patient Transportation to ensure optimal operation of support services. Responsible for overseeing and leading the department in healthcare best practices, maintaining high standards, and fostering a hospitality culture. Works closely with all departments to solve issues and maintains a strong focus on patient experience through rounds and communication with patients and families. Key Responsibilities Assist in evaluating the hospital’s physical condition and maintaining best practices for cleaning and disinfection processes. Collaborate and problem‑solve with other departments and senior leadership to coordinate support services activities. Develop and maintain supply and labor budgets for the Environmental Services & Linen departments and support Patient Transport and Food & Nutrition departments. Oversee all aspects of human resources (interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling, and terminating). Monitor metrics for the Environmental Services, Linen, Patient Transport, and Food & Nutrition departments and align initiatives accordingly. Assist in research to improve hospital support services technology and equipment. Manage performance improvement efforts and throughput processes. Collaborate with infection prevention and control on new cleaning agents, equipment, and education. Partner with Safety Officer and Facilities Manager to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees. Act as liaison with contracted linen service and contract management teams. Understand the special needs of specific age groups (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric). Demonstrate personal excellence in customer service for internal and external customers. Hold staff accountable for delivering excellent customer service and participating in team efforts to increase satisfaction. Recognize improvement opportunities, collect and assess data, and develop performance improvement plans. Maintain compliance with licensure and certification requirements. Assist in preparing the departmental annual operating budget and manage cost variances. Collaborate with employees to control costs and pursue revenue opportunities. Complete projects and assignments within projected time frames. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. 3–5 years of leadership experience, preferably in a healthcare setting. CHESP certification.
