Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Description of APP role Division-Critical Care APP will work in a 48‑Bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit covering the Base hospital with future expansion plans to Liberty Campus. Experience required: Nurse Practitioner only - accepting a new graduate with PICU nursing experience or an experienced Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with ICU experience. Schedule & Compensation Schedule: 24/7 coverage, 12‑hour shifts (72 bi‑weekly hours), rotating shifts. Holidays – yes, weekends – yes, call – yes. Salary: $114,192 - $147,170 (based on 40 scheduled weekly work hours; position is 36 scheduled weekly). Job Responsibilities Patient Care Perform history and/or physical examinations on patients presenting for care in the area of expertise. Assess and diagnose illnesses, including chronic and acute conditions. Formulate, document, and monitor a treatment plan. Order and monitor therapeutic interventions such as diets, laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests as necessary. Provide clinical consultation and order interdisciplinary consults. Prescribe medications in accordance with Federal and State Law & Rules and CCHMC policy. Maintain competency in subspecialty practice within Joint Commission standards for focused (FPPE) and ongoing (OPPE) evaluation. Outcomes Identification and Planning Develop measurable goals that provide direction for continuity of care and consistency among providers. Prioritize, evaluate, and modify individualized comprehensive plans of care. Derive outcomes and plans involving the patient/family/caregiver when possible and realistic. Consider risks/benefits, costs, clinical effectiveness, current evidence, and clinical expertise to formulate interventions. Incorporate new knowledge to initiate practice change if desired outcomes are not achieved. Maintain and update documentation of outcomes, goals, and plan of care. Professional Practice Maintain professional behaviors aligned with core values and care standards. Participate in quality improvement activities or research to enhance care delivery. Engage in lifelong learning and professional development activities. Serve as preceptor, role model, or mentor; contribute to peers’ professional development. Integrate ethical considerations and research findings into practice. Provide leadership via committees, professional organizations, or publications. Advocate for the pediatric patient/family/caregiver and influence healthcare practice & policy. Care Management Maintain competency in skills and procedures. Promote self‑management, family‑centered care, and a safe environment. Provide leadership to achieve optimal quality, cost‑effective care. Document and communicate with the healthcare team for integrated delivery. Delegate appropriate monitoring, assessment, and interventions. Provide consultation to influence care plans and systemic change. Make referrals and discuss recommendations with patient/family/caregiver. Order and perform treatments, therapies, and procedures based on current knowledge. Explain diagnostic and laboratory results, benefits, limitations, and adverse effects of therapies. Evaluation Use systematic, ongoing evaluation of assessment data & outcomes to revise diagnoses and plans. Assess the accuracy of diagnoses and effectiveness of interventions. Include patient/family/caregiver and other healthcare providers in evaluation. Base evaluation on advanced knowledge, practice, and research. Use results to recommend process or structural changes, policies, procedures, or protocols. Qualifications Master's degree in a related field (or equivalent). Clinical license, certification, or training required; may also require a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree. Licensure and certification in accordance with CCHMC standards. May require a multi‑state licensure in addition to Ohio, depending on subspecialty. Primary location: Burnet Campus.
