Immigration Attorney

Overview We are a growing immigration law firm seeking a Lead Immigration Attorney to handle high-quality legal work across humanitarian, removal defense, and family-based matters. This senior, execution-focused role is for a lawyer who wants to practice law with depth, focus, and excellence—case strategy, advocacy, and client consultations—without being pulled into operational distractions. The firm handles all payroll, accounts receivable, marketing, and hiring responsibilities; you can focus exclusively on legal execution and case ownership. Responsibilities Appear in immigration court Handle occasional non‑routine advocacy, including in‑person appearances before immigration agencies, if needed Draft motions, briefs, and complex legal filings Develop legal strategy and make case‑specific recommendations Manage cases strategically from intake through resolution Conduct legal consultations for prospective and existing clients as needed Work closely with support staff to ensure filings, deadlines, and court requirements are handled accurately and timely Review legal work product for quality and accuracy Collaborate with and support junior legal staff as the team grows Types of Cases You’ll Work On (in order of volume) Asylum, Humanitarian relief (VAWA, U visas, Deferred Action, Military PIP), Family Petitions, Consular Processing, and Waivers. Legal Drafting & Advocacy Analyze cases and develop legal strategies to serve clients’ objectives Conduct legal research and draft correspondence, pleadings, motions, and briefs Represent clients in court to argue motions during legal proceedings Handle cases strategically and proactively through resolution Court Representation Represent clients in immigration court (remotely or in person, as required) for master and individual hearings (Asylum and COR cases only) Must be willing and able to travel when needed Serve as primary counsel of record in EOIR matters, with the firm maintaining continuity of representation as needed Legal Development & Strategy Identify legal risks and case vulnerabilities early and develop strategies to address them proactively Monitor immigration law developments, policy changes, and practice advisories Incorporate updates into firm procedures, templates, and case strategies Collaboration & Case Execution Maintain clear and timely case documentation, notes, and time records consistent with firm procedures Work closely with the Case Manager and the administrative team to ensure cases move efficiently Identify workflow issues and propose process improvements Participate in team meetings to align priorities and production goals Effectively leverage and delegate to support staff to prioritize high‑value legal work, including strategy, advocacy, and consultations Client Communication & Representation Conduct legal consultations and evaluate the viability of potential cases, providing clear recommendations to the intake team Provide clear next steps following consultations to support case conversion and onboarding Engage directly with clients on legal strategy, critical decisions, and case resolution, while support teams manage routine communication and updates Handle high‑level inquiries or escalations requiring attorney involvement Maintain professional and ethical client relationships consistent with firm standards Provide legal counsel to clients by analyzing their needs and determining a proper course of action Represent clients in court to argue motions during legal proceedings Work closely with and provide leadership to the administrative staff concerning client billing, client meetings, and invoicing, as well as finalizing client projects Manage administrative assistants, paralegals, and law clerks Determine case strategies and solutions to serve clients’ needs after analysis Compensation Considerations Base compensation: $120,000 – $140,000 per year Eligible for performance‑based bonuses; high‑performing attorneys who meet or exceed key performance indicators may increase annual compensation through the firm’s bonus program Additional compensation opportunities for candidates who Are fluent in both English and Spanish and can conduct consultations, training sessions, and client communications in Spanish Demonstrate exceptional legal writing and case‑development skills, particularly in asylum, waiver, and removal defense matters Contribute to firm growth through training, mentorship, thought leadership, business development, or other measurable value beyond case handling Qualifications Active U.S. bar license in good standing Minimum of 5 years of immigration law experience Must have spent at least the last 3 consecutive years practicing immigration law as the primary area of practice Demonstrated experience handling asylum, humanitarian relief (VAWA, U visas, Military Parole in Place), removal defense, and cancellation of removal cases Strong working knowledge of family‑based immigration, consular processing, inadmissibility waivers, and related forms of relief Proven ability to independently manage cases from initial legal strategy through final resolution Excellent legal writing skills, including the ability to draft persuasive motions, briefs, declarations, and legal memoranda beyond standard templates Strong judgment, accountability, organization, and attention to detail while managing an active caseload Ability to work effectively within a team‑based environment, leveraging paralegals and administrative staff while maintaining responsibility for legal strategy and quality control Willingness to appear in Immigration Court (remotely and/or in person) and travel as reasonably required Experience consulting with prospective clients and evaluating complex immigration matters Fluency in Spanish preferred, not required Prior experience supervising, mentoring, or reviewing the work of paralegals and junior legal staff #J-18808-Ljbffr
