Aircraft Mechanic II

Responsibilities Amentum is immediately hiring a qualified Aircraft Mechanic II in support of U.S. Navy Aviation maintenance operations at NAS Oceana Virginia Beach, VA. The Aircraft Mechanic II troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti‑icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems. This mechanic repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, plumbing, and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills. The worker interprets maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and engineering data to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing damaged components. Duties include performing 100‑hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections; examining reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks; and detecting engine malfunctions such as stuck or burnt valves. Jet engines and components are inspected for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, warping, wear, and missing segments. Jet engine turbine blades are examined for cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn‑out, or breaks. Testing equipment such as ignition analyzers, compression checkers, distributor timers, ammeters, and jet calibration testers are used to locate sources of malfunction. Work involves replacing or repairing worn or damaged components (e.g., carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine‑mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves) and removing the engine from the aircraft using a hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting parts for defects, and reassembling and installing the engine. The incumbent supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft, maintains maintenance records, and ensures work is performed satisfactorily. The mechanic may service engines and airframe components at line station, perform short‑overhaul repairs, and specialize in structural, precision, or functional spare parts and assemblies or engine repair. The worker may be required to be licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration. Additional duties include participating in required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual training with timely documentation; passing and maintaining a U.S. Government background security check, providing favorable fingerprints in EQIP, and providing a SF‑85/86 to maintain a CAC card. A negative background check may result in termination if the individual is not eligible for a CAC card. Minimum Requirements Shift work required, detachments possible. Must obtain CDQAR and Aircraft Crew Leader qualifications within 30 days of promotion or hire date. Must have completed Navy Aviation “A” School. High School graduate or equivalent. Must have completed F/A‑18 E‑G Initial and Career courses. Must have a minimum of five (5) years actual and recent organizational‑level F/A‑18 aircraft experience, plus 5 years prior F/A‑18 A‑G Collateral Duty Inspector/Quality Assurance Representative experience or an FAA certificate with Airframe & Powerplant ratings and equivalent experience. Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform all assigned maintenance tasks is mandatory. Must have Phase Coordinator experience. Must have in‑depth knowledge of the 4790.2 series (Program enforcement and compliance). Must enforce all Site, Company and Navy policies and procedures. Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must meet the physical requirements and/or pass medical examination requirements related to performing daily tasks. Must have working knowledge of the Technical Directive program. Must plan, prioritize, and assign tasks/workload to meet customer delivery dates and deadlines. Must have a valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license (if North Carolina resident). Must obtain T3 Secret Eligible Status. Must obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization; U.S. citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location. Preferred Qualifications Self‑motivated and works with minimum supervision. F/A‑18 Supervisor Fam C‑600‑3867. Naval Aviation Quality Assurance Admin C‑555‑0046. APU/Low Power Turn Operator. All required Support Equipment Licenses. Compensation and Benefits Hourly Rate : $39.46 per hour, plus $7.80 per hour for Health & Welfare, up to 40 hours per week.
