Specialty Sales Associate - Full Time Job Number: 260002BK Primary Location: United States – Rhode Island – Newport Organization: Newport Uniform Shop Pay Range: $16.00 Job Summary As a Specialty Sales Associate you will be the face of our company, highlighting our brand and image while contributing to building our reputation as a company that values its customers and their opinions. Through your specialty knowledge you will be directly responsible for assisting customers and helping them recognize the need for our products and services. You must be capable of learning about what we sell and be able to articulate our purpose in an educational, insightful, and professional manner. A positive and outgoing nature that enjoys serving others and making a positive impact to the organization is essential. Duties and Responsibilities Customer Service Proactively engage and make a connection with customers. Ask questions and listen to customer needs. Direct customers to merchandise and inform them about upcoming events, promotions, mobile offers, and STAR card. Provide premier customer service, cooperate and build positive, inclusive, and respectful relationships, and take accountability for your own actions and outcomes. Use specific knowledge to demonstrate product features and provide comparisons with similar products. When selling clothing or military uniforms, take upper and lower body measurements to ensure a proper fit of tailored articles. Organization Maintain store appearance. Sales Cross‑sell products and know the store layout. Make suggestions to customers about the latest trends and current promotions based on individual needs. Upsell products. Learn product features, keep up with the latest trends, and leverage company tools and technology to confidently provide the customer with product knowledge specs. Use a Point‑of‑Sale system to process cash exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, debit cards, and handling cash—including counting money and returning accurate amounts to customers. Complete various forms of paperwork, reports, and reconciliation. Handle special order merchandise requests, including ordering, tracking, and providing updates to customers. Inventory Be the keeper of merchandise; complete all inventory processes and ensure merchandise is properly checked in and accurately ticketed. Participate in periodic inventories. Dependability Adherence to assigned work schedule. Accurate and complete follow‑through on work assignments. Other Duties Additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Product Knowledge In‑depth technical knowledge of how products work, warranties, and the ability to compare products by features. Experience 1–2 years of retail or relevant work experience required. 6 months of product‑specific experience required. Communication Skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate with customers, peers, and management. Ability to communicate on the telephone with proper etiquette. Mathematical Skills Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to use a calculator and calculate percentages and ratios. Reasoning Ability Ability to multi‑task while being attentive to customers and remain flexible to the needs of the business. Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative independent of direct supervision. Ability to understand and problem‑solve customer needs. Physical Demands / Work Environment This position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, grabbing, and standing for at least two consecutive hours. It may occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. It involves lifting at least 25 lbs and up to 50 lbs in some departments. Work is typically performed indoors but may be assigned outdoors depending on location. Work Hours Available to work a variety of hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. General Experience 6 months of responsible experience in clerical office or retail sales store work of any kind in which the applicant has demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.
