Job Description This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to an office in one of the following locations at least three days per week: Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford, Mountain View, or Sunnyvale. Candidates in the Seattle, Washington area may work remotely. The position may require up to 25% travel and is eligible for relocation benefits. The Role As a Staff Engineer, you will lead on developing and improving developer productivity tools. You will influence technical direction, mentor engineers, and balance business needs with engineering growth. The Team The Continuous Integration (CI) Platform team owns CI infrastructure and tools that improve the CI customer experience. We build services like Remote Build Execution and build artifact storage to accelerate AV development. What You’ll Do (Responsibilities) Identify engineering pain points and propose/design/implement reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions. Influence the team’s technical roadmap. Evaluate new tools and technologies through PoCs. Ship improvements to our AV development toolchains and services that have a measurable impact on engineering productivity and core company metrics. Drive software engineering best practices and create tooling that encourages them. Help steer the engineering culture on the team. Guide the team to balance impact delivery with addressing technical debt. Mentor and grow engineers on the team. Set accountability standards. Execute and deliver impact individually and through the team. Set strong boundaries when selecting external requests and push back on misaligned requests. Minimum Qualifications (Must-Have) 7+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production systems at scale in the cloud. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience. Experience designing highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable services. Experience writing in Go, Python, or other production‑scale languages. Understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals. Attention to detail and a desire to improve processes and systems. Ability to lead and influence others, both internally and externally. Ability to research, document, communicate, and defend proposals, and give and receive critical feedback. Ability to make trade‑offs and communicate reasoning. Ability to manage competing priorities, focus on shipping, and work under pressure. Passion for mentoring and growing junior engineers. Passion for self‑driving technology and its potential impact. Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have) Experience working with GCP. Experience with Docker and Kubernetes. Experience owning or contributing to open‑source projects. Compensation Salary range: $170,000 to $300,000. The actual base salary offered will vary based on factors relevant to the position. Bonus potential: Incentive pay based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
