Lead Auditor

What You Will Be Doing:

As a Lead Auditor, you will perform and lead various excise tax audits, assist the Revenue Audit Supervisor with program management, provide technical direction to tax technicians and other auditors, and answer questions about various excise tax programs from the public.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

• Auditing: Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and procedures for conducting financial and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program audits.

• Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.

• Tax Law: Knowledge of accounting and tax law for individuals, sole proprietorships, partnerships, and/or corporations.

• Technical Credibility: Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:


Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, finance, tax, auditing, examining, preparing, reviewing, or reconciling financial accounts and data.



Special Note:


“Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.


“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.


“Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction.
