Orthopedic Technician

About the job The Orthopedic Technician is responsible for providing splinting, casting, and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) fittings to patients. This position will also be responsible for supporting Physicians during diagnosis and treatment. Responsibilities Apply, remove, and reapply casts and splints under the direction and order of the Physician; ensuring proper fit, patient comfort, and adherence to established clinical protocols are met. Fit and instruct patients on the use of Durable Medical Equipment (DME), including braces, immobilizers, crutches, walkers, and other orthopedic devices. Provide comprehensive patient and family education regarding cast care, splint maintenance, mobility aids, orthopedic devices, and provider-directed treatment plans. Assist Physicians with orthopedic examinations, procedures, and treatments; ensuring patients are properly prepared and examination rooms are appropriately equipped. Remove sutures and staples from superficial incisions following provider assessment and authorization for removal. Perform simple non-sterile dressing changes in accordance with provider orders and established clinical guidelines. Collect, document, and report patient information, including vital signs and relevant medical history or presenting concerns. Assist patients with ambulation, transfers, and mobility needs while promoting safety and comfort. Enter and process Physician orders for diagnostic testing, including laboratory studies and imaging procedures. Retrieve, review, and organize prior imaging studies and records to support patient evaluation and treatment planning. Monitor, maintain, and stock orthopedic equipment, supplies, and inventory to ensure clinical readiness and efficient patient care. Clean, disinfect, and maintain examination rooms, instruments, and equipment in compliance with OSHA, TJC, and organizational standards. Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural, linguistic, and individual patient needs, supporting effective communication and patient-centered care. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. BLS certification required. Prior work experience as an Orthopedic Technician preferred but not required. OTC certification preferred. Working knowledge with EPIC preferred.
