About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA), NIHSS Must-Have: - BLS is required. - NIHSS is required. - Experience with peritoneal dialysis is highly preferred. Description: The unit consists of 52 beds, all of which are private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio is mostly 1:7 for both day and night shifts. Staff Nurses will take a full patient assignment. A Clinical Assistant (CA) is available 40 hours per week. During that time, the CA will spend half on the floor taking care of patients and the other half in the office. CNA support is typically 4-6 aides per shift with a nurse-to-aide ratio of 1:10-12. Every other weekend is required, with three weekends in a six-week schedule. Holiday work will also be required as part of the rotation. RN scrubs are navy blue, while CNAs wear grey. Remote telemetry monitoring is available as needed. Registered Nurses are not required to read strips, but those with experience may do so if they choose. Common drips include Heparin and PCA with MSO4; however, continuous cardiac drips or insulin are not typically administered. Bipap, Cpap, and high flow oxygen are available, but nurses do not start their own IVs, as there is an in-house IV team for that purpose. An RT team is also available 24/7. Pharmacy services are operational 24/7 and equipped with Pyxis. Shifts are structured as 12-hour shifts from 0645 to 1915 and 1845 to 0715. Staff may submit requests for time off up to six times within a six-week scheduling period. Possible floating to other MedSurg or MedSurg/Oncology units may occur, but generally, staff will remain within their assigned unit for orientation. Common diagnoses and types of patients include ortho post-ops, basic neuro post-ops, general post-ops, and various medical diagnoses, such as COPD, pneumonia, and cellulitis. The facility handles hemodialysis on this floor. If a patient is undergoing COVID testing, they typically remain on the unit until test results are available. Cancellation policy allows for two shifts to be canceled per contract. Charting is conducted using the Allscripts system.
