The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs health care services utilizing radiopharmaceuticals to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of disease states. Performs Nuclear Medicine procedures and uses related techniques, producing images for interpretation by the Radiologist. Performs required equipment quality control procedures and reports deficiencies to supervisor.

Duties include preparing room, equipment, radiopharmaceuticals and materials as needed for procedures, maintaining clean and stocked procedure room on a daily basis, properly calibrating equipment daily, and assuring equipment is working properly. The technologist prepares patients for procedures, explains procedures, transfers patients to examination tables, positions patients correctly, and assists patients at the end of procedures. They send images to PACS appropriately and verify all are available for interpretation in a timely manner. They perform general clerical, file room, darkroom, and transportation duties when needed to fulfill the workload of the department. They practice patient care according to ARMC policy, assist Radiologists during procedures, and take films as requested. They are knowledgeable in proper sequence of scheduling exams for the entire Radiology department and consider age-related factors in obtaining images or performing diagnostic or therapeutic imaging studies. They apply knowledge of age-related factors appropriately to patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics. They regularly accept additional work during periods of low patient activity and demonstrate a willingness to assist others within the department as requested. They must know and implement radiation safety procedures when working with radiation producing equipment 100% of the time and are responsible for knowing and maintaining the measurements described in the Universal Protocol policy. They ensure that patient charges are given to the appropriate person to be entered into the EHR in a timely manner and that the charges are accurate. They administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients as directed by Radiologist, adjust dose for patient age and weight as appropriate, and obtain and correctly document verbal and telephone orders per facility policy. They rotate to other imaging departments as needed, participate in holiday and on-call rotation requirements, and perform other duties as assigned.
