Safety Coordinator I

BTD Manufacturing, Inc.

Safety is #1 at BTD: Our expectation is that every employee: 1) Follows safety policies, rules and safe work methods. 2) Promptly corrects or reports safety hazards or unsafe conditions. Promptly reports injuries for prompt diagnosis and treatment. 3) Makes regular suggestions for safety process improvements to support continuous improvement in safety. Essential Functions: This position is responsible for the following tasks, duties, and responsibilities: Trains employees in safety procedures, including but not limited to new employee orientation and monthly safety training. Assist in Onboarding as needed, for example, translating. Coordinates training for CPR/first aid certification classes. Manage Forklift Software (implementation, follow up on incidents, share information with leadership). Chairs the Safety Committee: maintain agenda and minutes. Participates and presents as scheduled at monthly Otter Tail Safety Meeting. Stays up to date on new state and federal health and safety regulations. To include but not limited to: Hearing Respiratory – including Air Quality Testing Oversees use of chemicals in relation to management of Safety Data Sheets and ensuring safe use of chemical. Suggests revisions to production methods and employee activity that does not meet health and safety codes. Consults with Director of Operations regarding the implementation of new safety procedures. Conducts emergency drills to ensure employee readiness for fire or weather emergencies. Schedules and performs safety audits and subsequently logs audit findings. Inspects working conditions to ensure all products and activities are compliant with safety guidelines. Participates in incident investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions. Maintains incidents on website and shares information. Tracks safety incident information near misses, property damage, and reported/OSHA/Dart injuries. Weekly updates on reported incidents and injury management to Leadership. Works with injured employees to manage injury, including but not limited to scheduling physical therapy appointments, first aid supplies, and working with leadership with work accommodations. Responsible for the overall administration of workers compensation program. Accompanies employees seeking medical attention for work related injuries. Enters workers’ compensation insurance claim and review claim management. Creates and manages Report of Workability in work related injuries. Maintains OSHA visual safety incident maps. Assist corporate legal department to address any health and safety-related legal matters. Compile, analyze, interpret, and report accidents. Review property and injury reports. Works with Purchasing Department and vendors in ordering safety supplies and trialing new safety products. Works with Purchasing regarding PPE supplies and orders safety supplies for workplace as needed. Education, Experience and Skills Required: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, or related field is preferred. 3 to 5 years previous work experience in the health and safety field is preferred. Management experience is preferred. Demonstrates broad knowledge of state and federal safety guidelines for the workplace. Exhibits knowledge of appropriate emergency protocols. Possesses knowledge of legal repercussions of workplace accidents. Able to read and interpret legal and federal OSHA documents. Demonstrates familiarity with job site machinery and products. Possesses strong leadership skills. Communicates clearly and effectively. Pays close attention to detail. Exhibits strong organizational skills. Possesses solid problem-solving and analytical abilities. Proficient in the use of word processing programs. Works well with a team. Excellent computer database, customer service skills, and experience with documentation systems required. Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access. Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, organized and able to prioritize. Ability to establish and maintain strong, cooperative working relationships with others. Able to present ideas effectively, orally and in writing, as well as strong public speaking/relations skills. Strong working knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods and practices used in production operations. Must be able to understand and follow routine oral and written instructions. Must be able to delegate work as workload defines. Demonstrates ability to remain calm and cool-headed in the event of an emergency. The qualifications listed above are guidelines. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: The position has good working conditions in a manufacturing plant environment. Time will be spent on the job site monitoring conditions and inspecting products. Time will also be spent in an office setting processing paperwork. Proper safety gear must be worn at all times. Travel to satellite offices may be required. Standard 40-hour workweek applies. There is also moderate exposure to Video Data Terminals (VDTs). Compensation Salary Range: OTC8 $54,655-82,024. The range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth.
