Major Duties of the Position:

• Provide high-quality general surgical services in our progressive, innovative health care system for the veteran outpatient and inpatient population.
\n
• Deliver patient-centered diagnostic and therapeutic general surgical care in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
\n
• Develop and implement individualized care plans to address the specific general surgical needs of patients.
\n
• Perform and interpret various general surgical procedures, including laparoscopic and open surgeries, hernia repairs, appendectomies, and other related surgeries.
\n
• Collaborate with other specialists to provide comprehensive surgical care, including cases that may require multidisciplinary management.
\n
• Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows, contributing to educational development programs affiliated with the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine.
\n
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to patient care, teaching, and research, and be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery at the University of New Mexico.

• Work with a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care for general surgery patients.
\n

Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Highly qualified individuals may be eligible for a recruitment/relocation incentive in accordance with agency policy. Compensation and Benefits:

• Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

• Paid Time Off: 50–55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5-day paid absence for CME)

• Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

• Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

• CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

• Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting
