We are looking for an Inventory Specialist to join a manufacturing operation in California on a contract-to-permanent basis. This onsite role supports reliable plant performance by overseeing maintenance parts availability, inventory accuracy, and purchasing coordination. The position also partners with maintenance, operations, and finance teams to keep materials organized, costs controlled, and documentation current.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee maintenance parts inventory to ensure materials are properly stocked, organized, and available to support daily plant operations.

• Coordinate purchasing activities for maintenance supplies and replacement parts, including order placement, follow-up, and delivery tracking.

• Plan and support preventive maintenance work and plant shutdown preparation by confirming parts, vendor information, and scheduling details are in place.

• Maintain accurate records in the maintenance management system by setting up parts, vendors, work orders, and recurring service schedules.

• Review stock levels and usage trends to establish reorder points, identify shortages, and help prevent downtime caused by missing critical items.

• Build and maintain a critical spare parts program to improve equipment readiness and reduce operational risk.

• Partner with cross-functional teams to strengthen receiving documentation, improve inventory control practices, and resolve supplier or material discrepancies.

• Analyze maintenance-related spending, evaluate vendor performance, and support pricing discussions to improve cost efficiency.

• Assist with capital asset documentation by organizing project files, processing purchase orders, tracking invoices and budgets, and maintaining approval records.

• Experience managing inventory control processes in a manufacturing, plant, or industrial environment.
• Knowledge of purchasing procedures, including vendor coordination, order tracking, and receiving documentation.
• Ability to maintain accurate inventory, work order, and parts data within a computerized system.
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance support and the material planning needed for scheduled maintenance activities.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to review usage, spending, and stock trends to support informed decisions.
• Experience supporting capital assets or project-related documentation, including purchase orders, invoices, and records management.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work closely with maintenance, operations, purchasing, and finance teams.
