Full Stack Software Engineer

This is a remote-first position for candidates located anywhere within the continental U.S. We maintain a flexible workplace, where team members generally collaborate during normal U.S. business hours and are expected to attend weekly meetings and stand-ups as well as occasional in-person team off-site events.

About You

• What's required (technical)

  • You have at least 3-8 years of full stack software engineering using modern web technologies such as React, Angular, or Vue. You are proficient in a backend language such as Ruby, Elixir, Java, or Kotlin.
  • You have an interest in DevOps and have some familiarity with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform.
  • You have experience building REST APIs and integrating user-facing experiences with backend endpoints.
  • You have experience with and enjoy working on distributed, containerized systems in cloud-native applications. You have experience defining and orchestrating infrastructure using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and/or Kubernetes.
  • You are passionate about exploring, adapting and implementing emerging technologies and methodologies.
  • You design and implement patterns when appropriate and adopt lightweight processes as needed. You regularly document your code and architecture. You are passionate about exploring, adapting and implementing emerging technologies and methodologies. You have a growth-oriented mindset with a positive and proactive attitude.

  • have experience in the Financial Services industry or FinTech.
  • are interested in leveraging AI to solve business problems, and understand how to navigate the tradeoffs between speed and quality.

What to Expect

• You will participate in the design, development, testing, and deployment of new product features and enhancements.
• You will help test and peer-review the code of other engineering team members.
• You will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to help gather requirements and translate them into software solutions.
• You will contribute to proactively identifying and eliminating technical debt.
• You will drive the adoption of best practices in coding, testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
• You will stay updated with emerging trends in software development, helping to integrate them in order to continually improve and modernize our current tech stack.

Tech Stack

The tech stack at Max is evolving. Our team regularly works in Ruby on Rails, Kotlin / ktor, and React applications. We leverage AWS, Terraform, and Github Actions for infrastructure and deployments.

Location and Working Hours

This is a fully remote position with flexible working hours and location anywhere within the continental U.S. Your availability must overlap with our core hours of 10am-4pm ET by at least 4-6 hours each day. There are occasional opportunities for in-person collaboration and "all hands" events with colleagues.

Compensation

Your base salary will depend on several job-related factors including relevant prior experience and/or subject matter expertise. Max operates as a remote-first workplace and offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.

The estimated base salary range for this role is $120,000 - $140,000 (USD), with an opportunity to earn an annual performance bonus, and a 3% employer-sponsored contribution to your 401k plan following a three-month waiting period. This estimated pay information is based on our good faith estimate as of the date of this posting, and may be modified in the future. In addition, this role offers an annual home office stipend.
