The County of San Diego has current openings for Administrative Secretary III. Future salary increases are available. Administrative Secretary IIIs are responsible for providing personal and confidential secretarial assistance to executive-level management. In this position, you will answer telephone calls; prepare correspondence on behalf of the department, schedule appointments and maintain calendars; maintain administrative and confidential files; make travel arrangements; attend meetings and prepare minutes; run reports and queries in various software programs; and perform many other confidential and personal secretarial duties. The ability to interact effectively with all levels of County staff, representatives from outside agencies, and the public in a diplomatic manner is essential. There are current vacancies in the Department of Purchasing and Contracting and Health and Human Services Agency. This list may also be used by other County Departments for future vacancies.

Hiring process and timeline

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.

  • Interviews, Job Offers and Background Process will begin in July 2026. (Current County employees may be exempt from the background process.)
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Three (3) years of secretarial experience performing a wide range of personal and confidential secretarial duties; OR,
  2. Three (3) years administrative support experience performing increasingly complex tasks and assignments that demonstrates discretion in decision-making, interacting and communicating with executives or board members, and a strong attention to details and organizational skills; OR,
  3. At least one (1) year of experience as an Administrative Secretary II for the County of San Diego.

Conditions of Employment

As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.

Evaluation

The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based upon scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment application and supplemental questionnaire.
