Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Journeyman Lineman role based in Council Grove, KS. The Journeyman Lineman installs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground distribution lines, including setting and replacing poles, stringing and sagging wire, and working on energized and de-energized lines. Daily responsibilities include troubleshooting outages, performing routine line patrols, responding to service calls, and assisting with construction and maintenance of new services and system upgrades. The role requires operating and maintaining line trucks, bucket trucks, and other heavy equipment, as well as working safely in all weather conditions, participating in on-call rotations, and following all safety procedures and cooperative standards.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of electricity and power distribution systems, including construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting of distribution lines.
- Experience working with substations, including basic substation operations, maintenance support, and adherence to safety and clearance procedures.
- Valid CDL Class A (or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe) and demonstrated ability to safely operate line trucks, bucket trucks, digger derricks, and related heavy equipment.
- Completion of an accredited lineman apprenticeship program and status as a qualified Journeyman Lineman (or equivalent experience and certification).
- Proven commitment to safety practices, ability to work at heights and in adverse weather, and capacity to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, climbing, and working in energized environments with appropriate PPE.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills, including the ability to follow written and verbal instructions, complete required documentation, and work cooperatively with crew members and members of the public.
- Availability for after-hours, weekend, and emergency call-out work, and willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training in electrical distribution or utility operations is preferred.
