Department: 34909 Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center - Behavioral Health: IU 631 Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: M-F 8 am- 4:30 pm Pay Range $35.50 - $76.60 Major Responsibilities: Quality - Utilizes the CQI process to achieve outcomes with scope of responsibility. Designs and implements improved processes to achieve quality and superior patient care and services. 1)Leads hospital committees or task forces related to patient care quality improvement initiatives. 2)Facilitates evidence based practice changes recommended by the unit council and other shared governance patient care committees via provision of appropriate management guidance and support. 3)Ensures compliance to regulatory standards (Accrediting Organization; IDPH; CBOH; OSHA; etc). 4)Analyzes monthly performance outcomes and implements improvement action plans as indicated in collaboration with Clinical Nurse Specialist and unit council members. 5)Develops, implements, evaluates, and upholds unit based standards of nursing practice to assure quality patient care in conjunction with Clinical Nurse Specialist and Medical Director as appropriate to department. 6)Works with patient care area team to develop a continuous quality improvement program in accordance with the hospital performance improvement program. 7)Works towards improvement of CMS core measures and other evidence based quality care compliance with a zero defect philosophy in providing appropriate care to all patients. 8)Facilitates and supports quality care improvement project implementations driven by the unit council and shared governance structure. 9)Communicates quality assurance and performance improvement outcomes to team while mentoring associates in CQI philosophy and processes. 10)Implements a minimum of 1 departmental process improvement per year. Quality - continued... 1)Demonstrates the three Behavior-Based Expectations (BBEs) of Commit to Quality, Critical Thinking, and Communicate Clearly and the Tools associated with each. 2)Works with Medical Staff to integrate medical standards to ensure provision of quality patient care. 3)Assists in patient care activities when needed. 4)In all actions with patients and families, demonstrates behaviors that are age appropriate for the individual in question. Service - Drives customer satisfaction (Patient, Physicians and Associate) strategies for the scope of responsibility and ensures alignment with IMMC and Advocate Strategic Vision. 1)Drives customer satisfaction strategies for department in alignment with Advocate system vision and directly accountable for results as measured by the Advocate Experience survey tool, e.g. movement of % very good scores. 2)Reviews unit level Advocate Experience Satisfaction results and coaches unit council and team through implementation of appropriate action plans based on trends to achieve defined customer satisfaction goal. 3)Conducts daily rounds in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Specialist to assess service levels and perception of patients and family members via interviews of customers within own areas. 4)Holds Associates accountable for exhibiting Advocate Service Breakthrough and Patient Safety behaviors and expectations with a zero tolerance for deviation from standards philosophy. 5)Ensures compliance to all regulatory/safety standards to maximize the environment for the customer (Accrediting Organization; IDPH; CBOH; OSHA; etc). 6)Responds to and resolves patient complaints in a timely fashion utilizing service recovery strategies. 7)Develops a partnership with Medical Directors of unit(s) to ensure that goals are established, plans to achieve goals are created, and monitors are put in place to measure outcomes. 8)Develops professional relationships with medical staff that utilize patient care area; strives to meet needs of medical staff to ensure patient satisfaction. 9)Serves as a role model for all customer satisfaction initiative planning, communications and service recovery strategies. 10)Coaches Associates and reinforces use of the BBEs and safety tools in order to reduce errors related to patient safety. People - Promotes self-development (professionally and personally) and the development of Associates within scope of responsibility. 1)Serves as unit’s Chief Retention Officer to develop, implement and evaluate strategies to retain Associates. 2)Utilizes appropriate departmental planning, communication, coaching and mentoring skills to support goals of high Associate retention rates 3)Manages high risk Associate populations prone to turnover to actively manage turnover potentials. 4)Creates a supportive environment for all new graduates on boarding to the unit via effective, efficient and proactive management of the accountabilities outlined for the Versant RN Residency. 5)Evaluates all Associates on at least a yearly basis through the Performance Pathway process, which includes the review and development of an annual learning plan. 6)Works with the Clinical Nurse Specialist assigned to area to improve the clinical competence skills of Associates and to introduce new techniques. 7)Utilizes skills of Associates to enhance the performance of the team in the patient care area through meaningful delegation of work. 8)Identifies and mentors future leaders for the team, focusing on the quality care, business strategies and seven key results areas. 9)Provides counseling and direction to all staff regarding professional and unit practice and uses appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary. 10)Actively supports and encourages professional advancement of nursing staff to achieve goals of 50% or greater specialty certifications by RN staff, promotion of at least 2 STEPs candidates annually to NC III or IV and progress towards advanced degree completion by 1 or more of the RN staff on the unit. People - continued... 1)Manages opportunities for continuing education hour acquisition for STEPs certifications and annual maintenance levels by collaborating with Clinical Nurse Specialist regarding unit, hospital, system, local, regional and national educational offerings attendance. 2)Celebrates accomplishments of the Team and recognizes achievements of individual Associates. 3)Actively participates in hospital committees and projects, delegates assignments appropriately. 4)Manages own learning needs by proactively participating in appropriate committee and projects to stretch skill sets. 5)Maintains active membership in one professional organization. 6)Demonstrates current knowledge of federal and state legislative issues affecting area of specialty. 7)Serves as an instructor for Culture of Safety a minimum of two times annually. Physician Partnership - Works closely with Clinical Nurse Specialist, Director and Medical Director to foster an environment where Advocate values can flourish: • Compassion • Equality • Excellence • Partnership • Stewardship 1)Manages professional account relationships with key physician staff, e.g. top 10 admitting physicians, physicians with complaints, residents, etc. that utilize their patient care area(s) to achieve an excellent image of nursing and excellent interdisciplinary relations. 2)Collaborates with Medical Director(s) of units to establish unit goals, create plans to achieve goals, and monitor outcomes regarding clinical quality of care measures and patient, physician and staff satisfaction indicators. 3)Identifies and corrects safety issues on assigned unit in collaboration with clinical manager, Director and Medical Director. Growth - Builds a departmental reputation and maintains patient care area on the cutting edge of performance and quality via input into implementation of strategic partnership with Clinical and Medical Directors. 1)Communicates and collaborates effectively with physicians, nurses, directors and other health care team members to assure delivery of quality care in a high stress environment. 2)Collaborates with Director to establish new processes or product lines that improve quality, satisfaction or productivity outcomes. 3)Works with Clinical Nurse Specialist to develop required educational and competency plan along with any other tactics to support implementation of changed or new services provided. 4)Performs proactive risk assessment to evaluate patient safety implications of new services and processes. Finance - Responsible for establishing productivity measures for scope of responsibility and ensuring that expected outcomes are achieved. 1)Aware of hospital budget responsibilities to ensure appropriate stewardship of available resources (human and material) and meets or exceeds targeted budgetary goals. 2)Responsible for the day-to-day operational efficiency of the patient care area and progressive improvement in productivity measures. 3)Establishes staffing requirements and determine appropriate utilization of human resources. 4)Maintains FTE and position control with budgetary guidelines and works with recruiters to aggressively manage vacancies. 5)Utilizes Associates at identified levels of competency as determined by State law, hospital policy and regulatory agencies. 6)Provides feedback and/or reports on utilization of supplemental staff. 7)Completes budget variance reports and analysis monthly and develops appropriate action plans with measurable outcomes. 8)Administers the Advocate Compensation Program within defined expectations. 9)Reinforces the inventory system developed in the department, along with charging of supplies; monitors process and makes changes when appropriate. 10)Assesses impact of patient safety when evaluating new products recommendations on assigned units and includes this analysis in all final recommendations. Finance - continued... 1)Develops capital equipment plan for department to enhance and support services; works closely with key Physicians to assess the capital equipment needs. 2)Monitors and updates charge master at least on an annual basis or when services change. 3)Demonstrates a minimum of one change project annually with a cost-effectiveness analysis regarding nursing care. 4)Documents cost savings related to management interventions. 5)Monitors unit LOS and drives action plans to achieve hospital & unit goals in collaboration with Clinical Nurse Specialist and Medical Director. 6)Reviews unit processes and creates action plans to address improvements. 7)Creates and uses monitoring and/or assessment tools to assess financial effectiveness of unit work process changes. Licensure: Nurse, Registered (RN) Education/Experience Required: • Graduation from approved School of Nursing • 5 years of experience in specialty area • Management development training with progressive supervisory assignments. • BS with MSN or BSN • Management experience 2-3 years • Board Certification within two years of hire.
