Principal Data Engineer (Distributed Systems)

Salary: $142,000 - 194,000 per year Requirements:

• 11 years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, data science, computer science, or information systems; or a bachelors degree in a related field and 7 years of relevant experience; or a masters degree in a related field and 5 years of relevant experience; or a doctorate in a related field and 3 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency in designing data models for accurate, efficient data management.
• Demonstrated ability or knowledge in innovation, including generating or supporting new ideas, technologies, or processes for organizational growth.
• Experience creating and refining prototypes for system validation and stakeholder feedback.
• Demonstrated ability to build and manage robust API integrations between systems.
• Demonstrated ability or knowledge in cloud computing, including deploying, managing, and securing cloud environments and applications.

• Identify project data requirements and business objectives, mentor junior colleagues, and design and build infrastructure for processing data from varied sources.
• Analyze, design, and troubleshoot data flows according to business needs; contribute to architecture, performance, and security reviews.
• Optimize data collection, indexing, and queries; build scalable ETL pipelines; coordinate with upstream and downstream teams on service-level agreements; and manage data-provider relationships.
• Establish data governance policies and procedures throughout the data lifecycle, including retention, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
• Lead redaction of personally identifiable and protected health information, uphold data minimization, and identify and escalate security concerns.
• Design and implement data validation, integrity, annotation, and labeling processes; automate quality and governance checks; and correct non-conformance.
• Design and optimize automated, scalable ETL architectures and storage solutions for reusable data products and efficient access and analysis.
• Develop, maintain, test, debug, and review reliable, cost-effective data solutions in an agile environment; evaluate technologies and document and enforce coding standards and design decisions.
• Gather evidence and secure approvals for technical solutions.
• Coordinate moderately complex project work, track timelines and deliverables, delegate and prioritize tasks, and adjust plans as resources or schedules change.
• Collaborate across the organization and with business leaders, stakeholders, and customers to align expectations and meet needs; foster inclusivity and respect diverse perspectives.
• Analyze and resolve moderately complex problems, escalate critical unresolved issues with assessments and proposed solutions, and document problem-solving strategies.
• Pursue ongoing learning and feedback, stay current with industry practices, and coach and mentor junior colleagues.
• Recommend and implement process improvements, evaluate their impact, and seek feedback on alternative approaches.
