Positions Report to: Instructional Leadership Team Start Date: August 2026 Hours: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm + occasional out of school time responsibilities Compensation: Masters: $75,000 - $150,000 (salaries determined by credentials, experience, and additional benefits) FLSA Status: Exempt Who We Are East Harlem Scholars Academies are community‑based Pre‑K to 12 public charter schools operated by the East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP). EHTP began in 1958 as a children’s reading group and has grown into a multi‑site after‑school program and a network of public charter schools focused on significantly increasing the college graduation rate in East Harlem. EHTP also serves as an agent of change, fighting for racial equity through anti‑racism work, and preparing scholars to challenge the status quo and thrive in their communities. About The Opportunity As a High School Math Teacher, you will be student‑facing for the majority of the day. You will collaborate closely with your grade team and the instructional leadership team to internalize, and in some cases develop, curriculum; provide high‑quality instruction; track and measure student progress, including managing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs); create a positive classroom and school culture; and engage in reflection and continuous improvement. What Qualifies You Minimum of three years of experience teaching mathematics, with a preference for Algebra II experience. Bachelor’s degree or higher, and hold or are in the process of obtaining a New York State teaching certification for mathematics (required). Fluency in Spanish is preferred. High professional and ethical standards. Experience or enjoyment working with diverse student populations and communities. Belief that every student can and will learn when provided with a quality education. Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of traditionally at‑risk students. Flexibility to adapt to school and student needs. Commitment to continuous improvement and learning through professional development. Areas of Leadership and Key Responsibilities Demonstrate successful partnership with a classroom co‑teacher and employ multiple co‑teaching models (for instructionally designed cohort sections). Embody and effectively model the core values for students. Set ambitious goals based on backward planning, demonstrating locus of control, and aligning them with expected student success. Show deep knowledge of content and effective pedagogy, evidenced by clear, objective‑driven instruction and active learning practices. Establish clear expectations and routines for a purposeful, supportive, and engaging learning environment where students feel safe, respected, and valued. Build a classroom community that uses restorative practices to address student and community challenges. Apply a Team First mindset, proactively contributing to the community, engaging families and community members, and advancing practice through reflection and professional development.
