Livestock and Natural Resources Advisor (26-14)

Overview UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) is seeking a Livestock and Natural Resources Advisor for Mariposa and Merced counties. The advisor will conduct applied research and provide extension services focused on livestock production systems—including grazing, pasture management, nutrition, herd health, and marketing—to support local producers and community stakeholders. Responsibilities Develop and implement extension programs and educational outreach for livestock producers and related stakeholders. Conduct applied research addressing regional challenges in livestock production, pasture management, nutrition, and ecosystem health. Provide individual consultations, workshops, field demonstrations, and site visits. Prepare and disseminate outreach materials such as newsletters, fact sheets, training manuals, and digital content. Collaborate with other UCCE advisors, campus specialists, university faculty, and external partners in fisheries, conservation, and agricultural programs. Qualifications Master's degree in animal science, range management, or a closely related field. Certified Rangeland Manager license or plan to obtain certification within five years. Valid California driver's license and proof of liability insurance for vehicle use. Experience in extension or applied research related to livestock production. Knowledge of California natural resources and remote outreach methods. Background investigation and compliance with California child‑abuse reporting laws. Additional Skills and Competencies Excellent written, oral, and online communication skills; Spanish proficiency desired. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Commitment to lifelong learning and adaptive management. Experience with interdisciplinary research and team‑based projects. Salary & Benefits The position is Assistant Rank, Step I ($85,600) to Step VI ($105,200) with eligibility for indefinite status after three reviews. Benefits include paid vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, and sabbatical leave. Full benefits information is available on the UC website.
