Be part of a team that's committed to service, innovation, and community.Job SummaryInspects and enforces one or more of the functional areas: city codes, construction, sanitation, environmental, street & sewer, water quality codes or ordinances and reviews applications for licenses and permits.Job DescriptionOverviewThe Code Enforcement Officer I investigates, inspects, and enforces municipal, land development, and property maintenance codes within city boundaries. Schedules and performs systematic property maintenance inspections to maintain or achieve minimum property standards.Essential Functions1 Conducts and performs inspections on city properties, projects, buildings, and developments to ensure compliance with all municipal, state, and federal regulations.2 Identifies, determines, and compiles non-compliant concerns and addresses issues with appropriate parties; takes accurate data and information concerning code violations and enforces code compliance.3 Investigates non compliant problems and makes recommendations for corrective action; communicates and collaborates with developers and other individuals to address code violations and make changes; performs follow up work and assistance as needed.4 Creates accurate and professional notices of violation; takes photographs and gathers evidence while performing inspections; issues citations and responds to citizen complaints.5 Educates and provides information to citizens, developers, and the general public; interprets laws and regulations while educating public on laws regulations and code standards.6 Drafts, maintains, and edits documents regarding inspections, code enforcement activities, and code violations;7 Remains up to date on all current code standards and changes in regulations; maintains certifications and attends professional development as needed.8 Drives vehicles throughout the city to perform inspections and address compliance and code violations.9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.Knowledge and Skills1 Knowledge of municipal, state, and federal regulations.2 Knowledge of inspection protocols, policies, and procedures.3 Ability to determine code violations and suggest corrective action.4 Ability to issue citations and communicate with various individuals5 Ability to interpret, educate, and apply regulations to correct compliance issues.6 Ability to use computer programs, software, and equipment.7 Ability to provide calm, professional, and excellent customer service.8 Ability to manage time and complete multiple tasks.9 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing10 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.Minimum Qualifications:Education:High school diploma or GED.Experience:Two (2) years of heavy citizen/customer service contact resolving complaints and/or conflicts, service and/or billing disputes.Equivalency:A current Code Enforcement Officer Trainee certification (or higher) issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) will meet the education and experience requirements.License and Certification:Valid driver's license with good driving record.Must obtain certification as a Code Enforcement Officer Trainee issued by TDLR within probationary period.Other Requirements:Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.This position requires an ONLINE exam that covers the following categories:Reading ComprehensionApplying PoliciesSentence ClarityBusiness CorrespondenceSpellingSalary Range$22.32 - $24.56The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.City of Dallas is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
