At TSI, you make a difference – every day.Staff Mechanical Engineer at TSIThe Staff Mechanical Engineer demonstrates a thorough understanding of a focused and highly disciplined approach to engineering project work and independently solves complex problems associated with the design, development and manufacturing of products. This role will assume leadership of Mechanical Engineering activities on projects and will serve as the group expert for Mechanical Engineering design and sourcing. A successful candidate must also effectively communicate in cross functional teams that span all engineering disciplines, marketing, sales, and production.What Will You Do?In order to grow and build a successful career with TSI, you will:Independently design and develop the mechanical portions of electronic instruments, and integrate solutions with the electrical and optical designModel physical systems for heating/cooling, fluid flow, aerosol movement, and optics properties, using finite-element analysis software and related technologiesDesign and support injection molded designs, machined parts design, and rapid prototyping techniques, especially 3D printingUnderstand design, performance, and cost tradeoffs and make recommendations for optimizationSupport rapid cycles of design/test/model/experiment/analyze that are complex in natureEvaluate potential solutions to engineering problems for feasibility, manufacturability, and cost effectivenessAccurately estimate task duration and resource requirements to meet project commitmentsDesign parts in Creo and SolidWorksSupport product design, by testing sub-systems and products in a lab (functional testing, drop test, vibration test, etc.)Conduct experiments and system-level measurements for gases and aerosols, and verify and validate such systemsMay serve as a technical lead on research and development projects and provide guidance to other engineers or techniciansResponsible for providing strong documentation and specifications on project workOther duties, as assignedWhat Do You Need?RequiredBachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or similar; if a Master’s Degree in Engineering, Physics or similar is held, substitutions may be made for the Bachelor’s degree8+ years of product development mechanical engineering experienceExtensive hands-on experience and advanced proficiency in 3D CAD softwareProven success modeling with COMSOL or similar FEA modeling softwareThorough knowledge of and experience applying: mechanical engineering fundamentals; testing and validation procedures and the scientific method; discrete manufacturing methodsDesiredMaster’s Degree or Ph.D. or equivalent in Engineering, Physics or similarExperience in a research environment, conducting self-driven experiments and investigation ORProduct or research and development experience on a project from the concept phase through the prototyping and launch phase with leadership over the mechanical activitiesExperience leading and mentoring other engineers, serving as a subject matter expertRapid prototyping techniquesExperience in product verification and validation testing for mechanical components and systemsExperience in developing verification and validation test plansPro/E Creo ExperienceCOMSOL ExperienceOptics and Optical System Modeling experience, such as with ZemaxKnowledge of and experience with: additive manufacturing methods and processes; standardized engineering methods: FMEA, DOE, Sensitivity Analysis; fluid mechanics; heat transfer; aerosol measurement; programming: VBA for Excel, Python, C++/C#TravelSome travel may be required (less than 10%), including international, to key customers, trade shows, and conferences to present papers and maintain awareness of the state of the art and competitive technologiesWhat Can We Give You?At TSI, our employees are our most valuable assets, and we care about their health and happiness.
