Job Title Driver's License Examiner I Compensation and Benefits Annual rate: $43,680.00 Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance plans Defined Contribution retirement plan match up to 7% 11 paid holidays, 15 days paid annual leave increasing every 5 years, 15 days paid sick leave Longevity payments based on years of service Position Summary The Driver’s License Examiners (DLE’s) are one of the first lines of homeland security for the State of Oklahoma. They conduct driver’s license interviews, examinations, and inspections to determine eligibility and qualification for driver’s licenses or state identification cards in accordance with State and Federal regulations and guidelines established to protect citizens. Responsibilities Interview applicants to determine the type of license or identification required. Review, inspect, and verify the legality of qualifying documents. Verify identity and determine eligibility for and type of driver’s license or identification card. Advise applicants on reasons applications cannot be accepted and procedures to resolve disqualifying issues, including expert testimony regarding medical disqualifications. Evaluate medical, physical, or mental information provided by applicants, determine requirements for waivers or restrictions, and advise on waiver application procedures or additional evaluations. Conduct in-depth vehicle safety inspections of vehicles, buses, and commercial vehicles, and test operators’ knowledge and ability to safely operate required systems. Administer vision, written, pre‑trip, and skills tests; evaluate applicants’ performance to determine knowledge and ability to safely operate motor vehicles and comply with applicable laws. Establish driver’s license records while maintaining confidentiality and security of information. Assist the Legal Division in gathering evidence to prepare for potential legal action on fraudulent applications. Respond to inquiries from motor license agents, provide information concerning specific laws and procedures, and recommend changes to driver’s license laws, policies, and procedures. Conduct interviews and hearings concerning driver’s license suspensions, revocations, and restrictions; review accident reports; render final decisions and issue orders. Proctor CDL exams (must be CCKE certified) – Level II & Lead. Provide training to lower‑level staff – Level II & Lead. Review timesheets, identify issues, and approve them – Lead. Perform other duties as assigned and cross‑train within agency divisions. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of state and federal laws regarding driving privileges, physical requirements, exemptions, issuance of driver’s licenses, commercial vehicles, safety regulations, and licensing requirements. Knowledge of various types of driver’s licenses and interviewing principles and practices. Ability to conduct interviews; inspect and evaluate motor vehicles; operate motor vehicles; administer written and performance tests; authenticate identification documents; communicate effectively; operate computers; type. Ability to oversee work of employees, provide guidance, and manage complex tasks – Level II & Lead. Knowledge and understanding of time and leave management – Lead. Level Descriptors Level I: Entry‑level position responsible for performing work associated with testing and issuance of driver’s licenses and state ID cards. Level II: Certified Commercial Knowledge Examiner (CCKE) providing full‑performance level work with greater complexity for testing and issuance of licenses and ID cards. Lead: Certified Commercial Knowledge Examiner (CCKE) serving as subject‑matter expert performing the most complex functions for testing and issuance of licenses and ID cards. Education and Experience Level I: Bachelor’s Degree in any field OR four (4) years of technical clerical office work OR equivalent combination of education and experience. Level II: Minimum qualifications for Level II plus CCKE certification. Lead: Minimum qualifications for Level I plus a minimum of six months of experience in the Product & Experience division. Preference may be given to candidates with previous customer service experience, familiarity with DMV processes and procedures, and typing proficiency of at least 50 words per minute with minimal errors. Special Requirements Schedule may vary and include early or late shifts, weekends, and occasional overtime based on agency needs. Work location may vary; occasional travel required and the candidate must be willing and able to perform all job‑related travel. Reliable transportation may be required for local travel; possession of a valid Oklahoma Driver License is required. Position in a storefront setting; noise level usually mild but varies with customer traffic. Candidate may need to stand for up to eight hours a day and lift 10–50 pounds with assistance as needed.
