Job Summary: The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) on the night shift provides direct patient care, coordinates treatment plans, and ensures high-quality nursing services for patients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. This role demands strong clinical judgment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and commitment to patient-centered care, including assessment, medication administration, monitoring, education, and emergency response. The RN serves as a professional role model, mentor, and resource within the healthcare team. Responsibilities: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in accordance with hospital policies and nursing scope of practice. Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapy as ordered by physicians. Monitor vital signs, symptoms, and patient progress; promptly report changes. Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, discharge instructions, and health management. Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health records (EMR). Ensure compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards. Assist with post-operative recovery, chronic illness management, and acute care interventions. Respond to emergencies and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams for optimal outcomes. Provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families. Promote patient independence through education and goal setting. Document and communicate patient care activities, irregularities, and ongoing needs. Delegate and oversee tasks assigned to nursing assistants and other support staff. Participate in nursing staff meetings and in-service education for professional development. Orient and mentor new staff members. Required Skills & Certifications: Current Registered Nurse (RN) License in the state of Idaho or approved compact state licensure. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification upon hire. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within one year of hire. Graduate of an approved School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Prior Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred. Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Skills & Certifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Experience mentoring or orienting new staff. Demonstrated ability to serve as a role model and resource for peers. Special Considerations: Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as needed. Maintain good physical, emotional, and mental health to meet job demands. Work environment includes direct patient care on a medical-surgical unit during night shifts. Scheduling: Night shift schedule with potential for rotating shifts, weekends, and holiday coverage.
