CNC Mill Machinist – 5-Axis – 2nd Shift

Four 10-Hour Shifts — Every Friday Off
$30–$45/hr DOE

Position Summary

ABC Sheet Metal is seeking an experienced CNC Mill Machinist with strong hands-on experience independently setting up, proving out, and running simultaneous 5-axis CNC milling operations .

Simultaneous 5-axis experience is required. Experience limited to 3+2 positional machining does not meet this requirement.

This is a hands-on CNC setup and machining position requiring complete setup ownership, including tooling, fixtures, workholding, offsets, part alignment, program prove-out, first-piece verification, basic G-code edits, GD&T, in-process inspection, and troubleshooting.

Candidates should be able to take a prepared CNC program and independently complete the machine setup, establish workholding and offsets, prove out the program, verify the first piece, troubleshoot machining issues, and prepare the job for production.

Responsibilities

• Independently set up, prove out, and operate simultaneous 5-axis and 3-axis CNC milling machines .
• Perform complete machine setups, including tooling, fixtures, workholding, offsets, part alignment, program prove-out, and first-piece verification.
• Set up and support machining operations requiring continuous simultaneous movement of multiple axes .
• Establish and verify work offsets, tool offsets, datums, and part orientation.
• Read and interpret blueprints, setup sheets, tolerances, and GD&T .
• Make basic G-code edits at the machine.
• Review prepared CNC programs and work with programming personnel to identify and resolve program or machining issues.
• Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
• Build, modify, and support custom fixtures, soft jaws, workholding, and setup tooling .
• Troubleshoot dimensional, tooling, setup, workholding, and surface-finish issues.
• Adjust offsets, speeds, feeds, and tooling as needed to maintain part quality.
• Operate manual or conventional shop equipment as needed.
• Work with programming, quality, and production personnel to improve setup time, cycle time, and part quality.

Required Qualifications

• 6+ years of CNC setup and machining experience .
• Strong hands-on experience independently setting up 5-axis CNC mills .
• Hands-on experience setting up and running simultaneous 5-axis milling operations .
• Experience must include true simultaneous 5-axis machining and not be limited solely to 3+2 positional machining .
• Experience setting up and operating 3-axis CNC mills .
• Experience performing complete machine setups, including tooling, workholding, offsets, part alignment, and program prove-out .
• Ability to take a prepared CNC program through setup, prove-out, first-piece verification, and production readiness.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T .
• Ability to make basic G-code edits at the machine.
• Experience performing in-process inspection using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and similar precision measuring tools.
• Experience with custom fixturing, workholding, soft jaws, and setup tooling .
• Strong troubleshooting skills involving setups, tooling, dimensional issues, workholding, and machining processes.
• Experience working in a precision machining, job-shop, or similarly complex manufacturing environment.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining quality and production requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Haas UMC-Series simultaneous 5-axis setup experience strongly preferred.
• Mastercam experience or familiarity with reviewing Mastercam-generated CNC programs.
• Haas or Renishaw probing experience.
• Aerospace manufacturing experience.
• Experience in an AS9100 or ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
• Experience performing secondary machining on sheet metal components, formed parts, weldments, or fabricated assemblies .
• Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, or other aerospace materials.
• Lathe setup or operation experience.
• Experience operating manual or conventional shop equipment such as a Bridgeport/manual mill, band saw, drill press, or similar equipment.
