Registered Nurse Cardiac PCU

The Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides specialized nursing care to patients with cardiac conditions including myocardial infarction, post open-heart surgery, vascular surgery, and stroke with cardiac involvement. This role requires expertise in telemetry, cardiac monitoring, and advanced cardiac care interventions. The nurse is expected to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, manage complex patient needs, and maintain high standards of care in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to cardiac PCU patients including those with myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and post cardiac surgery.
• Perform cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation.
• Manage specialized cardiac equipment such as LVADs, TAVR devices, and epicardial pacers.
• Administer medications, blood products, and perform treatments including breathing treatments, chest tube care, CPAP/BiPAP, and tracheostomy care.
• Perform cardioversion, defibrillation, and manage post-operative care for open-heart surgery patients.
• Manage vascular access including IV skills and radial band management.
• Utilize Epic electronic health record system for documentation and patient care coordination.
• Float to like units as required and work every other weekend.

• Minimum 2 years telemetry experience with surgical and cardiac patient care.
• Experience with open heart surgery, vascular surgery, and cardiac PCU patient management.
• Active RN license with ability to work under compact license.
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
• Proficient in Epic electronic medical record system (hard stop requirement).
• Strong IV skills and experience with radial band management.

• Experience with VAD (ventricular assist devices) and TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) care.
• Experience with stroke patients with cardiac involvement.
• Familiarity with sternal precautions and chest tube management.

• Floating to similar units is required; flexibility is essential.
• Every other weekend work is mandatory.
• Patient-to-nurse ratio typically 1:4, may increase to 1:5 during midnight shifts.
• Travel contract eligibility requires at least 3 months separation from any non-Swedish Providence facility; active compact license accepted across Swedish facilities.

• Shift assignments include day and night shifts with floating to like units.
• Weekend work every other weekend is required.
• Shift length typically 12 hours with possible extended hours post-operatively.
