Purpose of Position Lead and direct a team of employees and contractors responsible for animal care, production performance, site maintenance, site appearance, and controlling costs to maximize revenue. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Conduct site visits to ensure the management team is giving proper care and management to animals and following all ISF animal well‑being policies. The three company expectations listed in the section below are all tracked via audits; you play a critical role in the success of audits for the entire farm which also impacts incentive payouts. Execute and implement strategies to achieve production and economic goals of the company and specific geographic area, including production performance, revenue and marketing, and cost‑management KPIs. Communicate with Supervisors and Senior Supervisors on the size and quality of your sites. Forecast, select, and mark hogs for market and observe newly placed pigs when sites are filled. Assure site managers have necessary training, supplies, and tools to provide proper swine care. Work with the transportation department on the efficient flow of pigs in and out of sites. Partner with site managers in managing the environment and environmental controls while educating them on troubleshooting ventilation issues. Help site managers monitor all nutrient storage facilities and report issues immediately. Instruct and train managers on proper swine drug administration: mixing directions, injection quantity, and withdrawal times to meet ISF protocols. Monitor overall health of pigs and communicate with the Staff Veterinarian and Senior Finishing Supervisor on field events. Administer ISF protocols for site maintenance and pig management. Understand and troubleshoot alarm systems and calls; ensure a response is initiated for 100% of these calls, acting as a backup to site managers. Assist with hiring (referrals, farm tours, etc.) Evaluate, discipline, and terminate employees in partnership with HR/ Supervisor. Promote and demonstrate safe animal‑handling practices. Provide feedback to senior management. Operate generator and portable generator correctly. Follow company guidelines for vehicle usage. Pick up and deliver supplies in a timely manner. Work with site managers to identify animals needing timely euthanasia. Complete euthanasia processes according to ISF protocols. Understand daily production numbers and factors that impact those goals as well as the steps the farm is taking to achieve those goals. Understand company production and incentive packages and educate employees to achieve these results. Ensure employees work safely, use personal protective equipment when required, and remain motivated to perform at a high level to achieve production results and ensure all employees are trained. Help management team create routines that result in passed audits. Help management team create and execute action plans based on audit results. Assist the leader in strategy development and continuous improvement. Attendance is critical; be at work on scheduled days and ready to walk into barns by start time given. All other duties assigned by supervisor. Company Expectations Adhere to Iowa Select Farms bio‑security policy at all times, reporting any violations or concerns to management. Compliance with Iowa Select Farms safety policies and procedures, including continuous education to maintain a safe work environment. Follow Iowa Select Farms animal well‑being policy at all times and partner with the Production Well‑Being team in a timely manner if an incident occurs. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervise employees and contractors, carrying out supervisory duties in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Assist, solicit, interview, and administer contracts to individuals needed to run production sites. Plan, assign, and direct work responsibilities for others. Maintain staffing levels needed to meet company goals, including involvement in interviewing and hiring processes. Provide contractors and employees, both current and new, with updated training on applicable positions. Coordinate with human resources to respond to employee concerns or complaints. Handle discipline and termination of employees or contractors as needed and in accordance with company policy. Conduct employee performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. Reward employees with positive feedback and utilization of company programs when performance in key areas is high. Work Environment Position may require tasks performed outside in varying weather. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Employees frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. Environment may have nuisance levels of gases and dust, particularly in winter months. Physicality Requirements Must stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. Must continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting, and various hand movements. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and climb ladders and over gates. Ability to climb in and out of livestock trailers that can be as short as 48 inches in height. Position Type / Expected Hours of Work Full‑time position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week. Expected days and hours: Monday–Friday day‑shift hours. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required as duties demand. Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges. Travel Regular travel required using a company vehicle. Education, Experience and Other Qualifications Previous experience in swine production operations is desired. Computer knowledge/skills: able to run reports, enter data, use email, Word documents, Excel, and navigate site tools to find important company documents.
