We also have (3) private rooms for banquets & catered events. River Terrace Inn A day in the life... This position assists the Director of Engineering to keep all equipment in good repair with minimum downtime by providing day-to-day maintenance of the hotel. Complete maintenance work orders from all departments on a timely basis by following hotels standard operating procedures. Continually work towards and support the improvement of engineering service to guests, other departments, and staff. Engineering & Maintenance Operations Perform routine maintenance and repairs throughout the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and exterior grounds. Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, painting, carpentry, and general building systems. Complete preventative maintenance tasks according to departmental schedules and brand standards. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and guest service calls. Conduct regular inspections of hotel facilities and identify necessary repairs. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition. Ensure all maintenance work complies with applicable safety regulations and hotel policies. Flexibility on scheduling: weekends, weekdays and holidays based on business needs Additional Responsibility includes Leadership & Department Support Serve as the primary backup to the Chief Engineer. Assist with daily department planning and prioritization of maintenance activities. Provide direction and support to maintenance staff as needed. Monitor work order completion and ensure timely follow-up. Communicate facility issues and operational concerns to hotel leadership. Assist in training new maintenance team members on departmental standards and procedures. Acting Department Manager Responsibilities When the Chief Engineer is off-property, unavailable, on vacation, or otherwise unable to perform departmental duties, this position will: Assume leadership responsibilities for the Engineering Department. Prioritize and assign daily work orders. Coordinate emergency repairs and facility responses. Serve as the primary engineering contact for hotel leadership. Coordinate with vendors and contractors as needed. Ensure all life-safety systems remain operational. Communicate major maintenance issues and operational impacts to hotel management. Maintain departmental productivity and service levels. Guest Service Responsibilities Interact professionally and courteously with guests at all times. Respond quickly and effectively to guest maintenance concerns. Maintain guest privacy and confidentiality while working in occupied rooms. Requirements Qualifications Required High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 2-3 years of facilities maintenance, hotel engineering, or related experience. Working knowledge of: HVAC systems Plumbing Electrical systems Carpentry Painting and drywall repair General building maintenance Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work. Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Preferred Previous hotel engineering experience. Technical certifications related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or building maintenance. Experience supervising or leading a team. Knowledge of preventative maintenance software systems. Performance Expectations Operational Excellence Complete assigned work orders accurately and efficiently. Maintain guest rooms and public spaces in excellent condition. Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills and proactive problem prevention. Leadership Actively support the Chief Engineer in achieving departmental goals. Demonstrate ownership and accountability for department success. Lead by example through professionalism, work ethic, and teamwork. Effectively manage department operations in the Chief Engineer's absence. Guest Satisfaction Respond to guest requests promptly and professionally. Minimize guest disruptions during repairs. Consistently support positive guest experiences. Communication Maintain clear communication with hotel leadership and operational departments. Keep accurate records of completed work and ongoing projects. Escalate significant issues immediately and appropriately. Safety & Compliance Follow OSHA, local, state, and company safety requirements. Ensure compliance with life-safety standards and emergency procedures.
