JOB TITLE: Merchandise Lead

JOB SUMMARY : The Merchandise Lead is responsible for supporting the day-to-day retail and merchandise operations of the New Mexico Goatheads throughout the season. This position will work regular weekday hours in the Goatheads Team Store while also overseeing merchandise operations during home games and select team events. Responsibilities include customer service, point-of-sale operations, inventory management, product organization, merchandising, order fulfillment, and supervision of game-day merchandise staff. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, customer-focused, and comfortable balancing daily retail responsibilities with the fast-paced demands of live events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:

• Staff and operate the New Mexico Goatheads Team Store during scheduled weekday hours.
• Provide friendly and professional customer service to fans and guests visiting the Team Store.
• Operate point-of-sale systems and accurately process cash and credit card transactions.
• Assist customers with product questions, sizing, availability, exchanges, and purchases.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional Team Store environment.
• Receive, unpack, organize, count, tag, and stock incoming merchandise.
• Monitor inventory levels and assist with maintaining accurate inventory records.
• Restock merchandise and maintain product displays throughout the Team Store and game-day retail locations.
• Assist with online merchandise order fulfillment, including picking, packing, and preparing orders for shipment or pickup.
• Support merchandise preparation for promotions, special events, new product launches, and other team initiatives.
• Oversee merchandise operations during New Mexico Goatheads home games and select events.
• Assist with opening, setup, operation, and closing of merchandise sales locations on game days.
• Supervise and provide direction to part-time game-day merchandise staff.
• Ensure merchandise locations are properly staffed, stocked, organized, and customer-ready.
• Assist game-day staff with point-of-sale transactions, customer questions, exchanges, and operational issues.
• Help ensure established cash-handling, inventory, and point-of-sale procedures are followed.
• Assist with end-of-event sales reconciliation, inventory organization, and closing procedures.
• Help train and onboard game-day merchandise staff on retail procedures, customer service expectations, and point-of-sale systems.
• Identify and communicate inventory discrepancies, equipment issues, customer concerns, or operational needs to management.
• Assist with merchandise sales and retail operations at community events, team events, and off-site activations as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous retail, merchandise, customer service, or event operations experience preferred.
• Experience working in a team store, retail store, sports organization, or similar environment is a plus.
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
• Experience with point-of-sale systems and cash handling preferred.
• Experience with inventory management, stocking, or order fulfillment preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Ability to work independently during weekday retail operations and collaboratively during events.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to provide direction and support to part-time merchandise staff.
• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working a flexible seasonal schedule.
• Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on the New Mexico Goatheads home game and event schedule.
• Interest in sports, entertainment, retail, or merchandise operations preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & EXPECTATIONS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others; move about the Team Store, arena, and other work areas; stand or remain in a stationary position for extended periods; traverse hard, uneven, or potentially slippery surfaces; operate computers and point-of-sale equipment; and position themselves as necessary to access merchandise, shelving, storage areas, or equipment.
• Must be able to transport, position, or move merchandise, boxes, displays, and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
• Position may require frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, stocking, packing, and movement throughout the facility.
• This position may require work inside or outside of a building and in varying temperatures or weather conditions based on event needs.
• Must be able to work extended and non-traditional hours, including weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays.
