What You Will Do Join a growing team as an Electrical Design Engineer in our Chicago, IL office! This is a hybrid position. At GFT, the electrical team is dedicated to creating efficient, innovative solutions for electrical systems, ensuring comfort and sustainability in every project. From energy‑efficient lighting and power systems to advanced electric‑vehicle and photovoltaic system designs, our team contributes to a resilient and sustainable built environment. Your day‑to‑day responsibilities will include electrical design for a variety of public and private sector facilities, including transit stations, aviation, industrial, commercial, schools, and government projects. Responsibilities Perform site survey of existing system conditions for interface of new designs with existing electrical and life safety systems. Design electrical systems including low/medium voltage power distribution, standby/emergency generation, interior/exterior lighting, low voltage access control, security, and fire alarm systems. Provide construction assistance including electrical shop drawing review, contractor relations, and site surveys. Lead and participate in meetings with clients, state and city agencies, utility service representatives, and project teams. Deliver projects on time and within client budgets. Deliver projects in compliance with client and company quality control procedures and engineering guidelines. Participate on project teams in an active production role. Prepare project specifications. Prepare electrical construction cost estimates. Collaborate daily with cross‑functional teams across multiple disciplines. Coordinate and verify as‑built drawings. Perform quality work that promotes client retention. Develop reports and design documents, including electrical floor plans, equipment schematic diagrams, equipment block diagrams, load calculations, short circuit studies, protective device coordination studies, and arc flash studies. Qualifications Minimum bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. 5+ years of progressive experience in engineering and design of electrical systems. Electrical power design experience is required. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred. Firm understanding of the National Electrical Code, NFPA codes/standards, and energy codes. Experience with facility site surveys, reports, feasibility studies, design, specifications, cost estimating, and construction support. Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit. Compensation The salary range for this role is $110,000 – $135,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location. Benefits Hybrid (in‑person and remote) work environment.
