Machinist 3rd Shift - TDI

Job Summary Machinist, 3rd Shift – TDI – Dayton, OH Responsible for operating all machines in the work center, ensuring accurate machining of turbine components for commercial and military aircraft. The position is part of GE Aerospace’s Unison site, involved in producing Air Turbine Starters, Surface Coolers, and Bellows. Role Overview Operate all machines in work center and more than one machine at a time Power up, home, and monitor machines; create coolant mixtures Perform basic housekeeping of the cell using 5S practices Use gages (calipers, dial indicators, micrometers, depth gages, bore gages, etc.), pneumatic tools, and hand tools to perform work and conduct inspections Understand and use tool data (offsets, wear, etc.) to insure acceptable parts. Review, understand, and follow routers, procedures, specifications, and other instructions for completeness before operations Utilize geometric tolerancing and blueprints for accurate machining Complete all company paperwork accurately and maintain inspection sheets Identify revision levels, produce error‑free products through in‑process inspections, and identify nonconforming hardware Meet production goals and maintain OQP certification Cross‑train, understand safety, and machining hazards Work in a team environment with minimal coaching Attend CCC meetings daily and manage program data in DNC system Change tooling, identify and use inserts, set up, and calibrate inspection devices Inspect and sign‑off on first part; maintain strong attention to detail Ensure compliance with GE policies and the “Integrity” guide; provide excellent customer service to co‑workers, customers, and vendors Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED Minimum 6 months of manufacturing‑related experience Ability to read and understand blueprints, routers, and part numbers Ability to read and follow work instructions and inspection sheets Ability to document and scrap hardware as needed Strong analytical skills; ability to interpret technical procedures, blueprints, and written instructions Basic mathematical competence (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions), including conversion between metric and imperial units Basic computer skills Strong communication skills and ability to respond to team members, coaches, and leaders Problem‑solving skills: define, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions Preferred Qualifications Prior machining experience Prior production experience Knowledge of documentation and scrapping hardware management Additional Requirements Access to U.S. export‑controlled information is required. Candidates must be able to prove status as a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status). Physical demands: stand 6–8 hours per day; work with upper‑body extremities; walk, sit, stoop regularly; lift 15lb frequently and 35lb occasionally; use hearing protection where noise exceeds 85dB; exposure to moving machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, and mechanical parts within OSHA permissible limits.
