POSITION SUMMARY

The Food Service Aide performs a variety of food service functions in maintaining clean and sanitary conditions of food service areas, facilities, and equipment. The aide may also assist in some aspects of food preparation.

RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Reports at assigned time, in uniform, ready for duty;

• Handles food and equipment according to sanitation policies and procedures;

• Is aware of safety regulations and responsibilities in operating all equipment;

• Delivers food carts, trays, etc., to designated areas, including resident rooms and dining room, as instructed by supervisor;

• Serves in dining rooms;

• Prepares and delivers snacks as directed;

• Assists in daily or scheduled cleaning duties, in accordance with established policies and procedures;

• Reports any discrepancies in the assigned area to the department supervisor;

• Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights;

• Performs related work as assigned.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL / VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to read, write, and understand directions in the English language. Previous Food Service Aide experience is helpful.

JOB SKILLS

• Working knowledge of the methods and techniques of handling and serving food.

• Working knowledge of sanitation practices relating to food handling.

• Ability to follow diet lists, portion food as specified, and serve food in an appetizing manner.

• Possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

• Ability to read, write, speak, and follow written and oral directions in the English language.

• Provide upon hire of a negative TB skin test.

PERFORMS RELATED DUTIES

• Interacts with residents, families, visitors, and employees.

• Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.
