Study Buddy matches students with volunteer tutors for online sessions to support their academic and social-emotional growth. Counselors facilitate sessions and program events, creating an engaging and positive environment for students and tutors. Founded in 2017, Hello Neighbor works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new home. Weve expanded beyond our mentorship program to now include health and stabilization services, family and community empowerment programs, and a national program supporting other refugee and immigrant nonprofits around the countryThis is a limited-term, part-time non-exempt position dedicated to the 2026-2027 academic year. The lead counselor will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule, including virtual Study Buddy sessions from 5-8 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with additional planning, administrative, and meeting time each week. Occasional in-person time will be required at program events and at our Pittsburgh, PA office in Larimer. The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States.Reports To: Youth Education ManagerKey Responsibilities:Helps facilitate Study Buddy tutoring sessions, navigating technology needs and creating a fun and engaging virtual environment. Interview and conducts onboarding training for new volunteer tutors.Helps to plan and participate in kick-off orientation for students and tutors, including coordination of loaner Chromebooks to studentsCommunicates with students, tutors, and families including session reminders and relevant messages.Connects with students and tutors through ice-breakers and community building activities.Collects and organizes data including daily attendance and other reporting. Fills in as needed to cover tutor absencesResponds appropriately to any issues that arise during tutoring sessions and elevates to Youth Education Manager as needed.Assists with planning and execution of in-person and virtual events, including orientation trainings, field trips, and community eventsAssists with recruitment of tutors and studentsHelps coordinate distribution of loaner Chromebooks to studentsParticipates in regular supervision meetings and relevant staff meetingsAdheres to Hello Neighbors confidentiality guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive informationOther duties as assigned within the scope of position expectationsPreferred Qualifications:Bilingual or multilingual in priority language preferred (Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Spanish)High school graduate or GEDQualified adult, 18 years or olderMeets academic standards for tutoring and demonstrates ability to provide effective, tailored solutions and support to help students reach their academic potentialDemonstrated strong interpersonal skills, characterized by compassionate, courteous, cordial, and professional interactions with diverse colleagues, program members, and the communityAble to cultivate excellent relationships with clients, staff, and partnersDigital literacy and the ability to learn new softwareEffective collaboration with others through cooperative effortsWillingness to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environmentValid drivers license preferred, personal vehicle, and proof of insurance are preferredAlignment with and support of Hello Neighbors core valuesAbout You:A team playerEnergetic, motivated and hardworkingExperience working with youthA problem-solverAbility to take direction and work independently as well as collaborativelyAbility to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at a timePassion for community building, refugee and immigrant rightsCultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgroundsExcellent writing, communication and organizational skillsLived migration experience and/or fluency in other languages a plusAdditional Details:This is a limited-term, part-time non-exempt hybrid position at our Pittsburgh office in the Larimer neighborhoodClearances required: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal History Clearance (PA Act 23 & Act 24); Mandatory Reporter training may also be required depending on job requirementsApplications are accepted on a rolling basis.Selected candidates will be invited to interview on a rolling basis.Anticipated start date: 8/25/26The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States.Hourly Rate: $15/hour, 12-15 hours/weekNote: the Study Buddy program follows school calendars and will include winter and spring break weeks off. This role is seasonal and will end at the end of the 2026-2027 Academic YearEqual Opportunity EmployerAt Hello Neighbor, we are committed to being an inclusive workplace where diversity in all its forms is championed.
