Associate attorneys are responsible for every aspect of the cases assigned to them. Associate Attorneys direct the activities of paralegals assigned to them, while remaining responsible for the overall case. The job is located in Seattle, Washington. Travel within the state is required and estimated at less than 10%.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Meet with clients to discuss claims and to devise strategies; advise clients to enable informed decisions; keep clients well informed, respond timely, and provide strong customer service.
• Prioritization and self-management of your time, and contemporaneous tracking of your time to a high degree of precision. Track multiple deadlines and projects to ensure all responsibilities are met. Maintain availability and responsiveness to address communication from and needs of clients, tribunals, opponents, and other members of our team.
• Collect money from clients to pay for outstanding fees owed and advances for services to be provided. Research cases by interviewing witnesses, speaking with client, reading depositions, reviewing evidence, and researching applicable law.
• Analysis of legal concepts and ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing. Attend all hearings on behalf of clients and advise clients following each hearing about the best strategies.
• Provide legal guidance and support to clients.
• Negotiate settlement agreements.
• Direct the activities of paralegals.
• Compile and maintain case files.
• Prepare and file pleadings and other legal documents as part of the litigation process.
• Conduct depositions and otherwise engage in the discovery practice.
• Manage and conduct all aspects of trial practice. Present and summarize cases to judges and juries.
• Confer with colleagues with specialties in appropriate areas of legal issue to establish and verify bases for legal proceedings.
• Perform administrative and management functions related to the practice of law.
• Draft marketing to support the practice.
• Act in an ethical manner at all times. Know and observe the Rules of Professional Conduct.

LAYWER QUALIFICATIONS:

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Skills of persuasion and negotiation.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Detail-oriented.
• Strong computer skills and competency.
• Professional attitude and strong personal ethics.
• Minimum ten years’ experience in an attorney role in law firm environment.
• Unrestricted license to practice in Washington State and U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
• Background suitable to a fiduciary role.
