Position Information Position/Classification Title: Police Supervisor I Working Title: Police Supervisor I Position Number: 630021 FLSA: Non-Exempt Appointment Type: Permanent - Full Time Tenure Track: No FTE: 1 = 40 hours/week, 12 months Department Hiring Range: The salary is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate’s educational background, relevant experience, qualifications, and demonstrated expertise. EEO-1 Category: Professionals SOC Code: 33-1012 - First-Line Supervisors of Police and Detectives Primary Function of Organizational Unit The primary function of this unit is to provide an effective and efficient link between the University Community and the University Police Department’s operations and services 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. The Department of Police and Public Safety maintains the responsibility of providing a safe and secure community for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors. All University Police Officers are sworn full-time police officers who are state-certified and must receive Basic Law Enforcement Training before being sworn as Police Officers. Officers have authority to enforce laws on university property and surrounding areas as defined by jurisdiction. Position Purpose The Police Supervisor I, serves as a Sergeant, overseeing and directing personnel engaged in general operation patrol, traffic enforcement, and investigative duties. This role includes evaluating staff availability, skills, and resources to effectively assign tasks. The Supervisor sets work expectations, reviews reports, and evaluates squad performance against standards. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The candidate must possess: Working knowledge of criminal and traffic laws and investigation techniques Knowledge of equipment provided by the Department and its care Knowledge of procedures for obtaining and serving search warrants and preservation Ability to conduct crime prevention programs and use conflict resolution and mediation skills Effective communication with witnesses, victims, detainees/arrestees, officers, the community, and management Ability to plan and conduct community programs; identify problems and options for resolution; exercise discretion in investigations, arrests, warrant service Minimum Education/Experience A minimum of an associate degree (or 60 hours of college credit) and 4 years of sworn law enforcement officer experience. Current certification from NC CJETSC as a commissioned police officer or certification eligible within an agency specified timeframe. Licenses or Certification Individual must be BLET certified as a law enforcement officer by the State of North Carolina through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Individual will be required to become DCI certified, trained in mobile data terminal use, and trained in Records Management Systems. Responsibilities and Duties Primary responsibilities and duties include: Annual firearms qualification and ensuring officer proficiency with assigned weapons Evaluate performance in areas such as public relations, equipment inspections, emergency response training, communication, and cooperation with other agencies Oversee vehicle inspections, report damage, maintain equipment, and operate police radios, emergency lights, sirens, and in-car computers Proficiency with equipment such as firearms, baton, handcuffs, OC spray, mobile video cameras, radios, and computer systems (CJLEADS, NCAWARE, Report Management System, DCI, CAD, etc.) Safe use of fire suppression equipment, digital cameras, lock tools, and flares in compliance with policy Assist with investigations, including traffic accidents, crimes, and incidents; may act as team leader under Incident Command Provide on-site support to victims and at-risk individuals; recommend crime prevention and campus safety improvements Other Functional Areas Function Solving/Problem Solving: assist officers with difficult situations; analyze and resolve problems; perform CPTED-based vulnerability analyses; develop action plans; conduct selective traffic enforcement Function Communication: present information to groups; communicate clearly in writing and verbally; advise other law enforcement agencies as needed Function Organizational Awareness and Commitment: evaluate events for proper manpower and equipment; monitor patrol operations; coordinate with campus events and scheduling Posting Details Posting Number EPA03510P Open Date 05/04/2026 Date desired for closing or initial review: Close Date, Open Until Filled: Yes Date Position Available: N/A Required Documents Required Resume/CV Cover Letter List of References Optional Documents Unofficial Transcripts (official required from selected candidate) DD-214 (Veterans Only) Letters of Recommendation National Guard documents (NGB23A or NGB22/DD256) for National Guard applicants Licenses and/or Certification required by Statute or Regulation Supplemental Questions Required fields are indicated with an asterisk (*). #J-18808-Ljbffr
