PRIMARY PURPOSE

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them clean, sanitary and orderly, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, begin cleaning in a counter‑clockwise direction around the room—dust high surfaces above shoulder height, such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges. Clean the high duster by gently brushing in a downward direction into the service cart. Sanitizing/Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, work counter‑clockwise around the room, sanitizing surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trashcans). Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot‑clean windows. Bathroom Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, wipe down the bathroom in the following order: above and below the sink, toilet seat and outside of the toilet bowl, then the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers daily, and empty trash cans. Floor dusting or vacuuming: Using a treated dust mophead, start at the back of the room with an “S” stroke, dust under furniture, and rinse the mophead with a downward stroke. When vacuuming, start at the back and work toward the door, getting under chairs and furniture. Grounds care: Outside areas cleaned and checked several times during the day. Grounds Cleaning Tasks: Police sidewalks, flower beds and curb line for trash and cigarette butts. Spot clean spills on sidewalk, remove gum with scraper, wipe benches and vending machines, wipe lower window ledges, high dust for dust and cobwebs, clean public area glass as necessary. Police parking lot for trash. Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop the main hallways. Ensure glass is cleaned several times a day. The planters are cleaned and free from bird waste, inside and out. High dusting of window areas at least two times per week, checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs and foreign debris. Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables; place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove accumulated dirty trays, wash in tray power washer, stack clean trays on shelf for recycled use. Police outside eating areas. Floor Sanitizing: Using proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room when sanitizing the floor. Mop under furniture and behind doors as you back out of the room. Inspection and Customer Relations After completing a room, review cleaning steps, check furniture placement, make corrections to prevent problems or complaints. Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting and high dusting are done daily. Knock lightly on the door before entering if occupied. Be friendly and cheerful to customers, answer questions or refer to someone. Report broken items to supervisor. Work quietly, speak quietly, reduce or eliminate noise. Stay in assigned work area unless requested. Loud talking, laughing, etc. is never acceptable. Maintain clean and neat personal appearance. If work is not completed by shift end, report to supervisor. Perform any duties assigned by supervisor or account manager, e.g., floor care, stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of basic janitorial operations, methods, materials, equipment and safety practices. Familiarity with the use of toxic and non‑toxic chemicals per MSDS sheets.

ABILITY TO

Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Communicate sufficiently with co‑workers and supervisors. Operate powered and non‑powered janitorial equipment. Interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals. Maintain physical condition appropriate to duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods. Operate powered and non‑powered equipment. Lift or carry 1–30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash. Push/pull using both hands and arms while cleaning, exerting 5–35 lbs. force. Climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes. Bend, twist, balance at waist, knees, neck during shift. Kneel, crouch, crawl while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves. Reach, handle, grasp and fingertip while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces, overhead reaching required.
