We inspire participants to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. As a physical activity-based positive youth development program, our evidence-based curriculum is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences.

Position Summary:
The Engagement & Communications Manager is a creative, relationship-focused professional responsible for increasing awareness, engagement, and community connection for Girls on the Run Worcester County.

Working closely with the Executive Director and the program team, this position leads the organization’s day-to-day communications and engagement efforts, helping build awareness of the Girls on the Run mission, increase participation and community visibility while creating meaningful opportunities for people to connect with the organization. 

The Engagement & Communications Manager will develop and implement engaging communications across digital and traditional platforms, coordinate community outreach and engagement initiatives, support fundraising and special events, and help tell the stories that demonstrate the impact of Girls on the Run. 

This is an ideal role for a highly organized, enthusiastic communicator who enjoys building relationships, creating content, coordinating events, and working in a mission-driven environment. 
Key Responsibilities

Communications & Storytelling

- Develop and implement an annual communications and engagement plan aligned with organizational goals.
- Manage day-to-day communications across social media, email, website, newsletters, and other channels.
- Create compelling content that highlights participant experiences, program impact, volunteers, coaches, donors, sponsors, partners, and organizational accomplishments.
- Gather stories, testimonials, photos, and other content that demonstrate the impact of Girls on the Run.
- Maintain consistent messaging, voice, and visual identity across communications.
- Coordinate website updates, email campaigns, newsletters, social media, and organizational materials.
- Support media outreach and opportunities to increase awareness of Girls on the Run throughout Worcester County.
- Ensure communications reflect the organization’s commitment to inclusion and accessibility.

Community & Volunteer Engagement

- Build and maintain relationships with schools, businesses, community organizations, volunteers, families, alumni, donors, sponsors, and other partners.
- Identify opportunities to expand the organization’s visibility and community presence.
- Develop strategies to engage families, alumni, volunteers, coaches, and community members as ambassadors.
- Support volunteer recruitment, recognition, retention, and engagement.
- Represent Girls on the Run Worcester County at community events, meetings, and speaking engagements.
- Collaborate with the program team on recruitment, outreach, and communications.
- Attend select program activities to build relationships and gather content and stories.

SoleMates Program

- Serve as the primary staff liaison for the SoleMates program.

- Recruit, onboard, engage, and steward SoleMates throughout the fundraising season.

- Develop communications, resources, and fundraising support to help SoleMates succeed.

- Track participation, fundraising, engagement, and retention and use data to inform recruitment and stewardship.

- Recognize and celebrate SoleMates and their fundraising accomplishments.

- Develop relationships with community members, businesses, running groups, and other potential SoleMates.

Collaborate with the Executive Director to identify opportunities to grow SoleMates participation and revenue.

Girls on the Run 5K

- Serve as the primary staff lead for the annual Girls on the Run 5K.
- Develop and manage the event timeline, project plan, budget, communications, and logistics.
- Coordinate participants, families, coaches, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, schools, community partners, and venue representatives.
- Lead 5K promotion, registration, participant communications, and community outreach.
- Coordinate volunteers, sponsor recognition, signage, registration/check-in, participant materials, and event-day logistics.
- Create a fun, welcoming, and mission-centered experience for participants, families, SoleMates, volunteers, and community runners.
- Manage post-event communications, sponsor recognition, surveys, storytelling, and follow-up.
- Evaluate event participation, revenue, expenses, fundraising, and engagement to identify opportunities for future growth.

Events & Fundraising Support
- Support the planning, promotion, execution, and evaluation of fundraising and community events, including the golf tournament, Sneaker Soiree, and other special events.
- Develop event communications, invitations, promotional materials, social media campaigns, signage, and other collateral.
- Support sponsor communications, recognition, and fulfillment in partnership with the Executive Director.
- Assist with fundraising campaigns, peer-to-peer fundraising, donor stewardship, and other development activities.
- Provide stories, photos, program updates, and impact information to support fundraising and grant communications.

Digital Engagement & Data
- Maintain the organization’s social media and digital communications calendar.
- Monitor engagement across social media, email, website, and events.
- Track key engagement metrics and use data to inform communications and engagement strategies.
- Maintain accurate contact and engagement information within the organization’s database or CRM.
- Stay current on nonprofit communications, social media, and engagement trends.

Qualifications & Skills

- 3+ years of experience in communications, marketing, community engagement, nonprofit development, events, public relations, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong storytelling and content-creation skills.
- Experience with social media and digital communications.
- Experience with email marketing, website management, graphic design tools, or similar technology.
- Strong organizational, project management, and time-management skills.
- Creative, enthusiastic, and comfortable taking initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to build authentic relationships with diverse audiences.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Experience with nonprofit, youth-serving, education, fundraising, or community-based organizations preferred.
- Event planning experience preferred.
- Experience with Canva, CRM/database systems, email marketing platforms, or website management systems preferred.
- Commitment to inclusive and accessible communications and community engagement.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, approximately once per quarter.
