MainePERS is seeking a Survivor Services Account Representative to support the administration of group life insurance and survivor benefits for Maine’s public employees, retirees, and their beneficiaries.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys helping people, researching information, solving problems, and ensuring the details are right . In this role, you'll serve as a resource to members, benefit recipients, employers, and staff by answering questions, researching and applying statutes and regulations, determining eligibility and benefits, and ensuring life insurance and survivor benefit transactions are accurate and timely.

What You'll Do

• Research and respond to member, beneficiary, benefit recipient, and employer inquiries regarding group life insurance, survivor benefits, eligibility, claims, and benefit processing.
• Determine life insurance eligibility and insurance status at retirement and at the time of a participant's death.
• Review and determine the benefits available to beneficiaries of group life insurance participants and deceased members.
• Serve as an account representative to assigned employers by reviewing premium billing for accuracy , investigating discrepancies, and providing ongoing technical assistance and support.
• Communicate with benefit recipients and their representatives regarding ongoing survivor benefits and group life insurance benefits .
• Process pre- and post-death benefits for payroll based on established calculations and follow processing standards for Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) payments .
• Review member and insurance information, identify discrepancies, and request refunds or additional billing when appropriate.
• Serve as a liaison to other MainePERS units on issues related to group life insurance and death benefits.
• Assist with monthly reporting and other unit responsibilities.
• Use system software and related tools to complete work accurately, efficiently, and within established timeframes .
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and other agency staff, including assisting with clerical duties and training as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent plus four (4) years of related responsible work experience demonstrating strong customer service, communication, attention to detail, and accuracy in reviewing financial and written information , as well as familiarity with basic accounting principles.
• Practical experience using basic computer applications .

Preferred qualifications:

• Associate degree in business, finance, customer service, or a related field .

Salary:  Begins at $49,025 if annualized

Monday through Friday, 7:30-4
40 hours per week, 80 hours per biweekly paycheck
