Grit Blast Technician (2nd Shift, Mon-Fri)

JOB SUMMARY The Blast Operator will work in the area of machine blast operations, which is accomplished by forcibly propelling a stream of abrasive material through a nozzle and onto the surface of a component. Blasting is often required to remove surface contaminants to prepare parts for repairs and paint. As a blast operator, you will work alongside experienced team members and gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in your career. You will become familiar with various types of blast equipment and blast media such as aluminum oxide, and plastic media. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure full compliance with company safety policies and procedures. Perform a variety of blast techniques on various types of turbine engine components using a cross mix of equipment (high pressure air, blast tank and other types of equipment). Perform various masking and taping (preparing the part for blasting) and performing actual part blasting operations using materials such as aluminum oxide, plastic grit and wet blast. Set‑up and operate blast machines and associated equipment to work instructions and manufacturer specifications. Secure supplies, tooling, and blast product prior to commencing operation. Perform routine inspections of blast equipment. Clean, adjust and maintain equipment using hand tools. Utilize daily, overhead crane and lifting equipment. Follow written and verbal instructions accurately. Read and interpret work instructions in various formats. Communicate all work‑related problems and issues with supervisors or other departments in a timely and efficient manner. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Two years’ work experience in a manufacturing setting. Experience with and/or a familiarity with pressure gauges. Demonstrated ability to perform basic shop math, including working with decimals and fractions. Possess a solid mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand step‑by‑step processes from the reading of work instructions. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS High school or technical school graduate or equivalent. Ability to learn the proper use of hand‑tools while demonstrating good eye‑hand coordination. Careful attention to detail. Capable of handling multiple tasks. Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs. Read, write, speak, and understand the English language. WORK ENVIRONMENT This position has pre‑employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing, vision exam and respirator fit test. Work in varying positions from time to time. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. Move parts >50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods. Move less heavy parts Able to work in enclosed spaces. Use of safety and personal protective equipment is mandatory under some conditions. Use of safety glasses, TyVek jumpsuit, and supplied air respirator. Follow general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, gloves, and hearing protection. Able to wear additional PPE as required. Occasionally use powered and non‑powered hand tools.
