Job Description

Job Title: Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Schedule: 7:00AM - 7:00PM x 3
Term: 26-week assignment with the potential for extension
Pay Rate : $140 - $151/hr

Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring a Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA) for a locum tenens assignment in Saint Louis, Missouri. These positions are 26-week contracts with the ability to extend.

Responsibilities for a Surgical Physician Assistant (SPA):
• Provide ongoing OR first assist coverage with clinic support and call for a cardiothoracic/cardiac surgery team supported by 5 Cardiac Surgeons and an Intensivist
• Perform coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures
• Assist with valve repair and replacement (aortic, mitral, tricuspid)
• Support ascending aortic surgery, including emergent dissections
• Perform left atrial appendage exclusion procedures
• Assist with Maze procedures
• Participate in redo sternotomies
• Perform and assist with mechanical circulatory support procedures including Impella, ECMO cannulation, and IABP exposure
• Conduct endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) using the Maquet EVH System
• Perform sternotomy opening and closure
• Place chest tubes and temporary pacing wires
• Operate on an adult patient population within an academic hospital setting
• Work regular shifts (0600-1830) with weeknight call (1800-0600, one night per week) and rotating weekend call (0600-0600)
• Utilize Epic EMR/charting software for all documentation
• Maintain current BLS certification; RNFA preferred for NPs
• Hold or obtain Missouri (MO) state licensure
• Maintain required board certification
• Submit procedure logs for any privileges requested; accept proctoring if procedure logs are unavailable
• Ensure APP resume includes specific department and role details
• Maintain CV in mm/yy-mm/yy format with explanations for any work history gaps exceeding 30 days
• Comply with COVID-19 vaccine requirement (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Return all facility-issued equipment at the end of assignment or accept financial responsibility for unreturned items
