Work Environment

Key Responsibilities

• Direct physical therapy treatment towards the prevention of disability and the relief of pain.
• Develop, improve, and restore muscle function through personalized therapy strategies aligned with the treatment plan.
• Oversee and guide physical therapy assistants to ensure the effective implementation of care plans.
• Conduct thorough evaluations of clients’ physical capabilities, using assessment tools to analyze muscle, nerve, and joint functions.
• Assess clients' home environments to recommend modifications that promote independence in daily activities.
• Administer therapeutic exercises and treatments as prescribed, including manual therapy techniques and the application of physical agents such as traction and massage.
• Evaluate, fit, and make recommendations regarding prosthetic and orthotic devices.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop, review, and update comprehensive care plans.
• Monitor and document client progress, reporting any changes in conditions to the appropriate medical staff.
• Prepare detailed clinical records, including evaluations, care plans, and discharge summaries, ensuring they meet regulatory and agency standards.
• Conduct functional assessments onsite to evaluate treatment effectiveness and community resource utilization.
• Maintain timely communication with clients, families, and health agency personnel.
• Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants in their duties as outlined by state regulations.
• Take on additional assignments as needed to support organizational goals.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program is required.

• Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in Virginia, in good standing.
• Valid CPR certification and a clean driver’s license with auto insurance.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and creative thinking in developing therapeutic strategies.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting.
